    Oily mess immitating real food

My wife and I eat Indian food on a regular basis. My wife is Indian so we know what this food should taste like. We ordered 3 dishes from Alachi, all were soaking in oil and lacking proper taste. I don't know how anyone could give this place 4 stars. Steer clear of this place.

    wont be back

The chicken tikka masala all other reviewers raved about was one of the worse Ive had ever. The sauce was like sweet ketchup. Try somewhere else if you want authentic and good indian food.

    quite good

Funny that someone who claims to know Indian food very well believes chicken tikka masala to be an Indian dish (it's wonderful, but it is a British creation). Anyway, Alachi Masala, while not as great as those in neighborhoods like Murray Hill or Jackson Heights, is one of the best Indian restaurants on the upper west.

    Networker

Meet people all the time, including film documentarians, great place to just relax and talk to the next table or the manager. If you like sweet taste this is the place. Don't miss the Indian Tea and fruit filled bread. Fish fillet made different every time, for every taste.

The Chef Boyardee of Indian Food

I wanted to take my boyfriend here for his birthday, after reading the glowing reviews on Menu pages about this place. All I can say is... HUH? This is probably the worst food I have ever eaten and we eat Indian a lot. Since my boyfriend has spent quite a bit of time in India, I wanted to take him someplace "special" instead of our usual place. We ordered his favorite Indian dish- Chicken Tika Masalla. It tasted like someone opened a can of tomatoe sauce, added a touch of creme and some very mild seasoning and poured it over chunks of chicken. It almost tasted Italian instead of Indian. We had bad very disappointing papadam. The roti was so so. The saag paneer was bland. And the maitre de/waiter spent the entirety of our meal texting on his phone. The place was fairly empty for good reason. We will never go back there. Our tried and true in the neighborhood has been much more authentic and flavorful, with a wonderful staff. I should have stuck with what we know and love.

    Food with my oil please

Didn't rate the atmosphere since I got take out. It was delivered pretty fast, I did like their menu choices, and was pleased when they agreed to exclude onions from my meal. But you know that feeling when you open the bag and the one thing you needed isn't there? Like RICE! They did say it was their mistake and would send me some right away (15 minutes, by when the food was cold). But my biggest disappointment was that for a higher end Indian place, they sure use a LOT OF OIL IN THEIR FOOD. I had to spill out oil from my meal, and then the samosa was full of oil at the bottom too. Don't eat here if you're not into oil. Better yet, tell them to hold the oil instead of the onions.
