The food is good at al dente. Their pastas are good, and so are the entrees we've tried. We order in a lot, so I can't really remark on the service, but they do charge extra for substitutions, and sometimes give you a hard time. My big objection is that their prices recently went up (again), and I'm concerned that they're just going to price themselves right out of the market. Careful, guys! Al dente is our favorite neighborhood Italian, though. Reliably good food.

The food was good, however-we noticed that the manager seemed to be rushing to get us out of there so she could seat the next guests. We felt very tense through our meal, as she kept peering over the booth to check our progress & kept telling the waitstaff to move things along. We just wanted a nice, relaxing night out-but did not get that due to the service. Would we come there again? No, there are other UWS Italian restaurants who would probably allow us the experience we were looking for....

Al Dente is my favorite place to go while in NYC! Their Mushroom Risotto is out of this world! And dishes as simple as Penne with sauce are so flavorful and delicious. Al Dente is a must try, you will not be disappointed.

After reading some of these misleading reviews we had to log our opinion. This is one of our favorite places to go after a long day when we just want somewhere that feels familiar. Al Dente's staff is like family and we always enjoy an excellent meal at a great value. Overpriced? Come on - that crappy franchise stuff in Times Square costs more. The food is freshly prepared and always delicious. Presentation is pleasant and not overly pretentious.

We really like the food at Al Dente. The pasta is very good, and the entree dishes are also delicious. Two criticisms we have are first, that there are too many tomato based pastas, and not enough other kinds of sauces. Second is that we feel that the prices have gotten a little high for what is essentially a neighborhood pasta joint. Nonetheless, it is our go-to Italian restaurant, and we get delivery every week. Overall, it's a good place to eat.

Unlike their name, the fettucine was not al dente. The noodle was soggy and clumpy. When I told the manager about the problem, he was defensive and argumentative.

...This little corner restaurant is one of my favorites in the neighborhood! I love sitting at the outside cafe tables, munching a salad, sipping a glass of burgundy, and watching the Upper West Siders walk by. I also love the newly renovated interior they did this winter - it's bright, cheeerful and tasteful. Their tables upstairs are intimate little spots for one of our "date-nights" and the downstairs dining area is great when we bring our child with us. The owner always has a smile when we come in and the overall experience is consistantly great. When it's raining out and I've had a long day - I pick up the phone and they deliver it to my door. What could be better!
