    Great for brunch!

I have been to Al Dente for brunch several times and it has always been great. I always get pancakes or french toast. My husband usually has some type of omlette which comes with really good potatoes. He's always been very happy with his choices too. The coffee is really good. They give you your own french press which is a nice touch. We've been to Al Dente twice for dinner. The first time I had a special pasta dish that was amazing. The second time the dish I got wasn't as good, but still acceptable. I also really like the atmosphere - it's adorable and cozy!

Great place for a cozy dinner!

I don't know what these people are talking about? My wife and I visit al dente on a regular basis and have never had a bad experiance. The service is fast and the food is terrific !! The wine prices are very reasonable. I don't think the food is over priced at all, with a menu range of $13 to 20 bucks . I also get delivery at least once a week. Anyways for what it is worth I love this place and will defiately be back .

    Overpriced Joke

Went with friends for a relaxing Saturday lunch, and the place was almost empty. Should have heeded the signs. Our waiter took 5 minutes to give us menus. The wilted salads cost $10 apiece, and my "pizettes" were a joke. If you want to make a little pizza, that's all well and good. However, if you're taking cheap focaccia bread, putting jar sauce and oil "cheese" on it, don't call it something that traditionally tastes partway decent. And don't charge $10 for it. For a place that charges extra for their special brunch menu, I don't expect potatoes swimming in an oil spill. Portions were minuscule. Cheap food, jar sauce, all wrapped up in layers of pretension and sticker shock when the bill arrived. $150 for a substandard diner brunch? This place doesn't deserve to call itself a fine dining restaurant. Will not be returning.

    Unpleasant experience

This restaurant does not fit the bill for Amsterdam Avenue. I was recently in this restaurant this past week and if I had read what I read online....I would never have gone in or recommended it to my family. When we first entered the restaurant, it was just my daughter and I. Everyone was sitting outside and I chose to have a cozier dinner with my family. I asked if we could sit in a booth since I had children with me. The waiter said that the owner would not allow it since they were worried that the children would get sauce on their upholstery. Worst mistake to tell a mother – some CHILDREN do have table manners!! Appetizers came and we were all fine. Waiter comes to refill my glass and he accidentally knocks my glass over. Water is all over me and the glass is shattered into pieces. He slowly grabs some napkins and tries to blot my lap (2nd no-no)!! I go into the restroom to try to dry up and to my surprise; blood is dripping from my leg. I show the waiter the blood from my napkin and tell him I need a band aid, but he is too busy taking an order at another table. I finally get a band aid and what they would refer to as a first aid kit. We settle back into our seats and the waiter is still picking up shards of glass, instead of grabbing a broom and sweeping it up. My children and I are too upset to finish our meal. The bill arrives and to our surprise, we are hit with the entire bill. Tried to speak to a manager and was told that there is no manager. Tried to find the owner - they could not tell us when the owner comes in. You have to wonder why this restaurant is doing so badly. Food is mediocre and service is poor. This place should be closed and if you are tempted to go in, understand that if you have any problems, you will have to deal with their wait staff that is unable to do anything about your problem. You will be referred to an owner who is never around. We were not looking to get comped dinner - we did enjoy the apetizer prior to the incident. Our error was that we should have left as soon as they tried to walk over the shard of glass that was all over the floor to serve our dinner.

    Great food includidng delivery

This place always has great delivery. I grew up with Italian food and this place has excellent, fairly simple pastas and salads. We order from here all the time. Try it!

    Great Place!!

My husband and I dined here this weekend with 2 other couples. The place is very charming and pretty, the service was good, and the food was excellent. Everyone in our party loved their meals, and this is a group that dines out very frequently. I am surprised to see quite a few bad reviews on this place... our experience was great, and the prices are very reasonable. We will definitely be back soon!

    not recommended

this is the first review I have ever given online after 22 years of living in NYC and eating out about 5 nights a week. the restaurant was attractive, but once seated all charm was lost. The service was a bit sketchy, but not the worst, the drinks were laughable (small martini with lots of water added) the salads were passable but unremarkable. The pasta was very much like what you would get out of a can; the meatballs tiny and next to no sauce, my friend had the lobster ravioli which he didn't bother to finish. again with the drinks, the wine was about 3/4 of a normal glass. At the end the bill was over $100.00 for a very disappointing meal
