    An interesting Dinner

I went to this restaurant hoping for the best. Although the decor outside isn't quite appealing. When you enter akwaba you are greeted with smiles. The server was very attentive and throughly explained all the dishes that were available. My friend had a soup with a piece of dough. And I had cous cous with fish and vegetables. His dish was awful ( and the server suggested it) , but mine was delightful. Before you come to thisrestaurant just make sure you know what you are about to order.

    the real deal...and tasty, too

My friends and I have tried a number of West African restaurants in the area and this is hands down the best! Having lived in West Africa, we were looking to revisit the cuisine we miss. Unfortunately, many of the other joints fail to live up to our memories and expectations. This place really hit the spot - the food was wonderful and authentic and the atmosphere was one of warmth and hospitality. I will definitely be returning for more!

A (very) pleasant taste of African food

I haven't experienced much African food (other than Ethiopean, which I have loved for years - and a few bowls of fufu from my local Bronx bodega.) Working in Midtown East, I decided to travel up to 116th and give Akwaba a try. It was a very good experience. I cannot say enough in favor of the service - they were gracious enough to explain all of the dishes, and even made changes on the entree on my behalf! One must try on the menu? The Thiakry dessert, a sweet fermented dairy dessert studded with millet - kind of like yogurt, with an African twist. Yum. Go to Akwaba - you'll go home happy.
