Delicious & Innovative
I loved this place! Cute and cosy with great food. Definitely try the tofu pizza - it's like a japanese version of french onion soup. Also, the vegetarian sushi is amazing! So was the lotus root with peanut sauce... Yeah, basically everything. And they have this book on the mantle that's as cute as the place called "If the World Were a Village of 100 People," that the waitress said was her favorite... I love this place...

best sushi delivery imaginable
There are many Japanese delivery options in my neighborhood, and I've tried countless, countless restaurants for great sushi when I'm just too lazy to walk to the Chelsea Market, which in my option has the freshest, tastiest market sushi around (you can't find much fresher fish in the city). I stumbled on the Aki menu one day, and although the prices are a bit daunting, I decided to give it a try...the food came quickly, was very nicely packed, and was really fresh and delicious! Since then, I've ordered from these guys countless times, it has always been fantastic, and for real sushi fans, I highly recommend this joint. And what do I mean by fantastic? For starters, you get a nice amount of sushi for your moneyfeeling full after spending $20 on food is important, and they deliver here. Second, and perhaps most importantly, the fish is extremely fresh, alwaysas good as, if not better than the Chelsea Market, which has a very high seafood turn-over rate. Thirdly, the chef offers not only a great variety of sushi with an array of fresh fish, but unique preparations including banana and even some with a little spiceI've learned I like new types of sushi from this place. Lastly, these guys know how to properly prepare sushi, with a touch of wasabi between the rice and the seafood, and homemade pickled ginger to refresh the palate in between bitesthe real ginger that is a burst of flavor in your mouth, intense and sweet, not artificial-flavored and jammy. In the end, if you live in the delivery area of Aki, and you don't mind the typical pricey sushi prices, do yourself a favor, shell out the cash, and I'll bet you'll be amazed at the quality and range of tastes and textures. I've never been to the restaurant for a sit down dinner, but after getting countless delivery, I know that when I do, I can expect a great meal!

One of the best!
First off, Aki is tiny tiny tiny, drawing a friendly west village crowd. It's far from a "scene" but still rather charming. Any group bigger then four may feel cramped. As for the food, everything is great. Sushi is fresh, tasty, and fairly portioned. The appetizers are my favorite, many blow Nobu out of the water. Go for the sea bass w. black bean sauce, tuna w figi apple, seafood salad, and the green tea tiramisu. Service is just fine, never have had a problem out of the 15 times i've been there.

Nothing special...
When I come to NY, I expect to be blown away by the food. Aki was just OK, and I feel I can get OK anywhere else. The positive things I can say are that everything was extremely fresh and inventive. However, they simply tried too hard. The tofu and yellowtail steak appetizers were bland...tasted like homemade food for diabetics. The one delicious plate I had, though, was the tuna/fuji/avocado cold app. That was simple and delicious. The rest was a lot of fuss for nothing special. The service could use a lot of improvement. The two waitresses were spaced out, and it took us three times to ask for hot tea. There were also two tables that sat down after my party of 2 that were served well before us. The atmosphere is squished but there's one really pretty well in the closet-sized space. I would not come back here again.

Great veggie options
The spicy veggie roll is easily the best that I've ever had. Portions were on the smaller side, but it's packed with flavor instead of extra rice. The space is small, so either go at off times or make a reservation. I can't wait to go back!

Quite satisfied
Flounder Escabeche appetizer phenomenal. Not greasey at all; very clean. Sushi very fresh/generous portions, with temperature not too warm or cold; just right. Miso soup not too salty with nice touch of added mushrooms. Rice quality excellent. Bad: No mackerel available today. White tuna so so.
