I and my American girlfriend went to Akdeniz Turkish Restaurant the other night for dinner, and we were very pleased with the hospitality of the staff as well as the service quality. I have certainly had better tasting and more sophisticated Turkish food in NYC before; however, we were satisfied by the overall quality of our appetizers and main courses. We have ordered the thick-yogurt appetizer Lebni, which tasted all right but it should have had some tahini and preferably baby dill mixed in (according to the original recipe). The Falafel was decent, and Piyaz (white bean salad) was also over the average. Our main course was Sultan's Delight, which is a marinated and cubed lamb dish served over pureed eggplant with butter/cream and cheese blended it. The lamb was very well marinated, it was soft and smooth and tasty. We were thus very pleased with the dish. The service quality was almost perfect; attentive and hospitable staff made us very happy as we were sipping our Turkish red wine and enjoying our food. The waiting time was also rather short, and our waiter ordered us a round of Turkish Coffee and Kadayif dessert on the house! Now that's superb. We left the place with a smile on our faces. Lastly, Akdeniz needs a good interior decorator; the atmosphere was far from cozy and chic.

I was there wednesday night, it was busy, a reservation is a must, the food was the best turkish you can get in the city. Everyone was friendly and the waiters were very helpfull and fast. We enjoyed our meal very much, definetely will be back !

Today is a sad day. This used to be one of my favorite Turkish places in the city, but their food is not as good as it used to be and it is no longer as good of a value. Food is more bland, less homey tasting, and all the menu prices have gone up. Went for lunch today and the Sultan's Delight which used to be just under $11was $15.95. I also noticed that the chicken in the dish just wasn't as favorful...and there were fewer vegetables stewed with it. The smoky eggplant puree also just did not taste the same. I wonder if they got a new chef and are also suffering from some sort of rent increase so that they have to raise their prices?

I went to this restaurant for the first time today for an early lunch. The food was better than good and the service prompt and friendly. However, I was taking out a colleague who was leaving for another job and we hung out a while at the table after eating to talk. We were asked - politely - if we could vacate the table because they needed it (no one was waiting at the time). This has never happened to me before. So although the food was good, I wouldn't go back.

Beware - they have a purchase minimum at lunch. The waiters/host don't warn you about it until you attempt to order an appetizer and a salad (which totals only a dollar or two less than most entree items). I'm not going back. The food is only passable and the service is not good and I don't want to be forced to purchase more than I want.
