Everything was incredible; the food was delicious, the service was fast, the waiters were pleasant, and the entire atmosphere was enjoyable. And to anyone planning to eat there soon, don't forget to order an appetizer of the Cheese Pastries.

Very simple decor, tiny space (ten tables top), in a half basement off of 5th Avenue, where it is hard to park - those are the only negative things I could come up with. As a Turk, I am very picky about the turkish restaurants I visit. This place is a new gem among the growing number of turkish restaurants in Manhattan. The space is nice and clean, the service very courteous, the menu both authentic and yet not overwhelming, the prices very reasonable (the pre-theater menu is a bargain) and the food simply excellent. Akdeniz not only stands above most of the Turkish restaurants here in NYC, but the food would survive even the critical clientele in Turkey.

Great food at great prices. The unassuming awning may just keep this restaurant a valuable secret. Surrounded by Brazilian and Argentinian restaurants that pale in comparison, their babaganoush is to live for.

My husband and I went last night just because we were walking by - the food was absolutely delicious! The service was wonderful too. I would recommend to anyone.

Well, my wife, who's Turkish, found this place on the internet as we were looking for a good spot to bring some friends of ours who were visiting NY. The menu was varied without being overbearing, which is always a good thing, especially if you are not familiar with Turkish food and the price was very acceptable for Manhattan! The food? Oh the food!! It was simply wonderful and given that I have sampled 'the real thing' on numerous trips to Turkey, I was astounded as to the authentic taste and presentation. My kebab combination, whilst being the most expensive dish on the menu, $17.95, was simply delicious, with the lamb and chicken both tender and succulent in equal measure. I should point out that the average price of the entree's was in the region of $9-$12. The service too was of the highest class, with both waiters who served us being highly efficent and courteous. Turkish coffee (for those who love a caffeine fix!) and dessert of Kadayif (sort of shredded and caramelised sugar and pistachio combination) were the perfect ending to a perfect meal. Our friends, who had never experienced Turkish food before, were astonished at the simplicity and yet elegance of their meals and given their own highly educated and experienced palates, this was no mean feat. Great food, great service and at a great price. This was my first time but it won't be my last.

This is my 2nd time at Akdeniz and I usually try to reserve my judgement of the place and food till I at least tried it twice, assuming of course my first visit gave me a good impression, and they did. Akdeniz is a small little Mediterranean Turkish restaurant and has the ambience of one. Nothing extremely elaborate but nice enough to make you feel comfortable dining there. I can't say I'm an expert in Turkish cuisine, but for my taste, the food was excellent. The lamp chops was a bit expensive but at the same time very flavorful and aromatic. The Meditarranean Salad and Spinach Tarator were very tasty. Portions were more than enough to fill up a normal diner (I consider myself a big eater and it even filled me up). We opted for their Pre-Fix menu, costing about $18, which included an appetizer, entree, dessert, and coffee. The number of selection on the Pre-Fix menu was good. While pre-fix menus are nice in general, just note that they aren't necessarily any cheaper than order menu items separately, and after tax and tip, it's not as cheap as one would think, still, at Akdeniz, this was a good deal. The service was excellent both times I was there, but just keep in mind that I was there when the place was relatively empty on both occasions. I recommend making reservations just in case since I have seen the place booked full and there's not much room in this place to begin with. The waiters were friendly and extremely attentive. They even offered 1 of us free coffee when the rest of us ordered it with our meals and 1 person did not, just so he didn't feel left out, how many other places can you say will do that voluntarily? I can't wait to go back there for more good food and service.
