Absolutely Delicious!!
Never judge a restaurant till you've had a little taste!! When my friends suggested Akai a few week ago I was a little hesitant to go, the place doesn't look like much but it will blow your mind. I'm in love with the Mets roll, the Chicken Tempura roll, the Rock Shrimp, the Tuna Guacamole, the Lychee & Apple Saketini, and our waitress Lisa!! The service was nothing short of excellence, I really can't imaging anyone not having a good time at Akai.

Best Japanese on Upper West Side
This is our favorite neighborhood restaurant. We eat sushi all over NY and this place is fabulous. The quality of the fish and all the ingredients is amazing. The service is head and shoulders above any other Japanese restaurant in this part of town. Akai is our 5 year old's favorite restaurant and our 2 year old loves it too! We also go with friends and the cocktails are fabulous. We love this place, it is a hidden neigherhood treasure.

A Gem on the UWS
My mom and I stumbled upon this place on Saturday. Everything about this place was fantastic - the sushi was fresh, the service was great, and we didn't have to fight anyone for elbow space! Akai is definitely the best value on the UWS - we ordered from the brunch menu - appetizer or drinks with an entree. Their chilean sea bass just melts in your mouth and is to die for. I'm really puzzled by all the people on this site who complain about the value... This is the only place I've seen that offers buy-1-get-1-free happy hours every day of the week.

Great rolls, Great value
Place was packed.Walked in and was introduce to the buy one get one happy hour special on the rolls & drinks. I took advatange of the special and order the "Pain in the ass" and "surf and turf". Was suprise with the size of the rolls and how tasteful they were. I also tryed out their "mangoberry" and "lycheeapple" sake-tini. I am not much of a sake fan, but was suggested by the waitress. Were very impressed with the drinks.. overall the food and service really motivated in putting up a review.

Disappointing
When looking at the decor, extensive menu and high prices at Akai, one would think they're in for a special culinary experience. They would be wrong. We spent WAY more at Akai than any of the numerous other sushi joints that we frequent, and we liked it the least by FAR. The tuna guacamole app was a great idea but incredibly poorly executed. No flavoring whatsoever. The special rolls looked great on paper but were also huge disappointments. To top it all off we were ignored for the last 25 minutes of our meal... stranded with empty beer and sake glasses.

Consistently delicious!
I have been going to Akai Lounge since it opened and I have not had a bad meal yet. The Special Sushi Rolls list is HUGE and amazing. I have yet to find another restaurant that can compare. Yes, the restaurant is not always crowded, but give it a little while and people will begin to catch on to the amazingness. Spread the word... this place rocks!

Very good drinks, decent sushi
Drinks are very tasty. This place has lots of specialty rolls, which is fun. They put together all these interesting combinations. If you are a die-hard sushi fan then you probably won't love it, but it's a pretty good place, and the outdoor seating area is key. Bring your doggie!
