Overprice
Don't order the grilled eel fried rice. It is not eel fillet overfried rice but tiny itsy bits of eel mixed with fried rice. The eel is a delicate fish and lost its flavor in the fried rice. It was a wasteful use of the eel. One would think they put more eel for the price but no. It indicated $9.50 but the owner charged $3 extra on the spot saying the price of eels went up (that day/week). The menu did not indicate it was a s.p. item. $12.50 for a plate of fried rice is a ripped off. The dish should be taken off the menu. I would never go back to Aijsen again.

Tasty fast food
This is a fast food chain from Japan. For what it is, its great. There is no other ramen place that takes credit cards and delivers in this neighborhood. Sure, there is better ramen in the city, but you cant beat the price and the convenience. Its much much much better than any american fast food chain.

Pleased
I was very pleased with the food quality and service at Ajisen. I ordered the tenderous rib ramen and I enjoyed every bit of it. Also, the fried squid was pretty delicious. Will go back once I'm back in town.

$50 and food inedible
We ordered 2 ramen soups, fried rice and sushi. Everthing was disappointing. Shrimp were unappetizing! Sushi was frightening and to top it all off we spent $50 with tip.

Disappointed....time and time again
i've been to this place many times since it first opened and to the ones in China, where ajisen is extremely popular. Not that it had ever been great but over time, it's just gotten from disappointing to subpar. The supposed japanese dumplings are merely overpriced chinese fried dumplings. The chicken skin sticks are over fried to crisp which not how it is suppose to be. The japanese fried rice was practically bathed in oil. The only good thing i would recommend is the ramen noodles (which is what this place is known for), especially the sukiyaki beef ramen. The beef was a bit overcooked but it was so sweet and delicious with hot and flavorful soup! It seems as if the owner (who is cantonese) is trying to change the restaurant to attract more customers by switching the original ajisen menu (which is leather bound with pictures of the foods) to a hong kong diner-ish menu that lacks clarity and description. He is also china-fying the place by adding cheap dishes like chicken curry rice (i was expecting japanese curry rice since it is a "japanese" restaurant) or chef's special.... i can go to any chinese joint and pay lower prices for that. The owner did try to replace my dish once he saw my untouched chicken curry rice but i was too disillusioned to chance it. it's a chance you are taking and if you stick to the noodles, you'll be happy with the food. but don't have any high expectations of anything remotely close to japanese style cooking.

Simple, Tasty Soup
This is not an authentic Japanese restaurant, and is not meant to be. (I think the owners are Taiwanese). I haven't had the sushi here, but it looks decent. The soup is the main attraction, and it's great for a cold day. The soups come out very hot, from my experience, contrary to a post below. The soups are simplenoodles, thin-sliced or ground meats, veggies, etc. The broths vary from rich to so-so, and can be very spicy if you ask. Also, the soy-sauce soaked boiled eggs are also simple but great. While Menchanko-Tei and other Ramen joints will appeal to noodle purists, Ajisen is a great no-frills place. Service is good, fast, and friendly.

Good noodle soups
They have improved a lot after a few ownership changes. Now this place is run by Taiwanese guys (they serve bubble teas and Taiwanese ice creams on the menus). The noodle soups are nice and hot, you must try their tenderous ribs ramen, the meat is soft and it just melts in your mouth. Also try their curry pork ramen. They give you like 6/7 slices of pork! The noodle soups are rich and flavorful. They have a variety of nice appetizers to order from as well . This is a noodle place and one should not expect to find quality sushi in here. This place is always quiet and it doesn't have blasting music. A good value for a nice lunch or dinner.
