Wish I Lived Closer
I recentely went to Aji to meet some of my friends who actually live in Park Slope. Being Peruvian, born and raised, I'm always looking to introduce the food to my friends, so I decided to take them to Aji for dinner and drinks. My friends, who had never tried any peruvian dishes were just ranting and raving about everything they tasted, from the tacu tacu (mixed rice and beans) to the octopus, to the ceviche, to the anticuchos (heart, shishkabob style) to the Papa a la Huancaina. I can go on and on but I think you get my drift. I live in NJ and I go there as often as I can and if I'm ever meeting friends from NY that's the place I always recommend. And, as if the food wasn't enough of a reason to go, the atmosphere is great and the music is excellent, whether is a live band or the DJ playing his music. I hope this place stays open through this hard economic times, it really deserves to be.

Go There.
Again I'm afraid that another Park Slope place I like that others just don't get or are too afraid to try will bite the dust. If you like good drinks and good food with a relaxing atmosphere, check this place out. Although we've never been to Peru, the food at Aji was very, very good. We had four of their tapas-style dishes. Our octopus kabob was NOT fishy at all. Very meaty and flavorful. The veal hearts - WHOA. i could've eaten 20 of those. Tender... I couldn't believe they could be so tender and tart. the marinade was delicious. our beef empanada could have fed 3 easily as a snack. finally, our tripe stew was so good. people are frightened by tripe - try it!! it's good!! i think if people get out of their comfort zone and try some of the things on aji's menu that they may not normally try, they would understand why this restaurant is good. wash it all down w/ a pisco sour... or three.

wish i'd had a better experience :(
took my bf here because he wanted authentic peruvian food. the food and drinks were pretty good for the most part, but the octopus kebobs were a bit fishy and the pork belly came out tepid. the patio area is simple but nice, and music volume is reasonable. my biggest complaint was that no less than 3 different people came to our table during the course of dinner, to peddle their wares (i tried not to be insulted as one handed me a flier on losing inches off my waist in "minutes"). additionally, a loud woman with a camera setup was in the front of the restaurant/bar area, doing some odd combination of selling a product and proselytizing. I felt that it was pretty unprofessional of the restaurant to allow those kinds of disturbances while people are eating. the whole thing became rather obnoxious, and for me kind of ruined what would have been an otherwise decent experience.

horizon expanding restaurant
I ate here with a large group for prix fix and had all sorts of food. One really stood out, the ceviche, which is like sushi fish (flounder) marinated in a lime juice. And I don't even like sushi or fish at all, cooked or not. But that didn't even taste like fish and the texture was good. I would go back just for that. Lots of potatoes are served, and lots of big kernel corn too. Not that they are full of flavor, just lots of it. Also some animal hearts were served, which I wouldn't touch... I just don't think it's wholesome. Maybe I just wasn't raised on it. They had a nice backyard patio under a pear tree, and yummy mango mojitos.

great escape
The roof deck w/the comfy sofas make one feel like they are not on 9th street. Some foods I would never eat (I recall organ meat) . Service is excellent
