I live in Harlem on the West side and don't have any Indian cuisine in my area. I was feeling under the weather and wanted to order in. I looked on menupages and was delighted to see an Indian restaurant within a 15 block radius that would deliver. When I called the man who answered was very rude and when I asked if he would deliver to me he said no. He wanted to charge me a minimum of $25 for him to consider taking my order. I told him I wanted an entree and an appetizer which would be around $20. He refused and when I asked if he wanted my business he, without hesitation said NO. I suggest if you want to be treated well you skip this place. If you want to order dinner and feel like you are unwanted....check it out.

I tried this place twice. Both times I felt like I burdened the wait staff by spending my money in their resturant. To be fair I generally eat alone and only order a small amount but it wasn't like they were overwhelmed by other customers. The dining area is nicely decorated but there isn't any place to sit if your ordering take-out. The food wasn't horrible but after trying it twice I think I'll spend my money else where.

If you've been to a proper Indian restaurant you know this place doesnt compare! They cater to the typical american/international student. I'm live right across the street so I go here all the time. I've experimented with a buncha dishes and disliked all but the chicken tikka masala. Highly recommended dish.

I used to go there rather often since I live 1 block away, despite of the service. The place is clean, the food is not the best, but not the worst. After they raised the prices I went couple of times. I read the other reviews and this is why I decided to write one. The service is extremely poor, the waiters have such an attitude... When you order they barely look at you, and they have no idea what place a plate on the table means. I tip regularly (20%) but I never heard a "Thank you".

I have been eating here regularly for the past five years since I have been a graduate student. The people who work here are very friendly, just like a family member. The price is also reasonable. My favorites are chicken briyanis, chicken curry, jal palzee and few others. Also good for other take outs like paratha, banana pakoras etc.

I have been a customer of Ajanta for five years. I find their food to be consistently excellent, better than most Indian places I have found here in NY. Their delivery service is prompt and in five years they have never made an error in their order. When eating in, the service is friendly and excellent. My absolute favorite restaurant in the Morningside neighborhood!

Stay clear folks if you are used to foods with flavor. I have never had indian food taste bland. This place wins top honors.. from shrimp curry to lentils. Excellent for the Gorah crowd.
