I visited this restaurant this past week in mid May 2013. I went with several friends. All of us really enjoyed the food including the yummy chips and salsa. I had the traditional tacos with the crispy shell. They were really good! They were the best I've had in Manhattan! The margaritas were good too! I noticed that the "grouponers" panned this place. Seriously folks, if you pan the place because they charge a nominal fee for a take-home carton, you shouldn't be in Manhattan.. They're never happy. My critique with the place would be better lighting. We have to remember this is a Tex-Mex place. You have to expect a little kitch atmosphere. ....otherwise, you'll be paying Rosa Mexicana prices.

Still like returning to Ah Chihuahua. Prefer to stay away from the fried dishes, and find the dishes I order to be the lighter tasting, less heavy Mexican the restaurant is trying to serve. Tend to order the various enchiladas or the grilled dishes which have always been fine. Have been coming for a few years now and the waiter staff is mostly the same. They have always been accommodating and attentive. Usually order full or half pitchers of margaritas on the rocks and find them to be tasty and potent. The salsa remains fresh tasting and tangy. As for "coupon" issues, I think there probably was a learning curve and perhaps there is a "language" issue for the staff, but for the most part, coupon use now runs smoothly. The place is small and dimly light, but not in a bad way but in a "kitchy/ divey" way. Have been there when its quiet and when its crowded and have not had an issue. Enjoy many of the other Mexican restaurant all over the city; they all have their own "style" and "price points", but for the food and the value, Ah Chihuahua is worth a try.

Went to Ah Chihuahuas and the experience was subpar to say the least. The restaurant looks like you’re in a Mexican dwelling that is in accord with the theme. I used a Groupon since I figured that it was a good deal. Food was ok but they charge you to wrap up your food? Taxes from the original price of the meal is factored in as well. Had 3 beers total and including tax and food wrap fee came out to $30 this is not including the tip that was based on the original price of the meal which increased the total out of pocket cost to $40+. Food was ok but the atmosphere was sketch at best. Don’t have high expectations when you go this restaurant. As one of the other reviewers stated, you could have a better Mexican experience for less throughout the city. Groupon for the loss

We recently had a dinner here via a Groupon. My partner purchased after reading some good reviews so it seemed like a good deal. We were so wrong. When we first walked in the place seemed almost run down, very dark and dank. It seemed the place could do with a good over all cleaning. First we had drinks and ordered maragitas. The margaritas were made with a mix, very small and served in a plastic glass. Much to expensive for what you get. We had 2 appetizers and 2 entrees with our groupon. We got the guacamole which was somewhat flavorless, and a chozio dish that had some flavor, but wasn't anything exciting. They do have "healthy" options like whole wheat tortillas which is a plus for sure, but it a pretty Americanized version of mexican food. I ordered chicken tacos only because of the large appetizers, they were mediocre at best. Came with cheese and lettuce. My partner had the enchiladas which were supposed to be pork, but appeared more like the chorizo we'd just ordered. The service was fine, actually very attentive. And the place was fairly busy though we noticed many people with Groupons so they were enticed by the same offer as well. Unless they have a massive make over, I would recommend to stay away. there are many mexican places in NYC that have better food for half the price.

After reading the great reviews, I was shocked at what I recently found here. We live in the area so stopped by for a weekend lunch. First of all, the inside of the restaurant smelled like mildew. As if that wasn't appetizing enough, the food was bland. I could get Mexican food with more flavor at Chipotle! The owner was very attentive and nice, which made it more of a shame that the atmosphere and food were so disappointing.

Friends and I have been coming here, almost weekly, for awhile now. We are never disappointed. The wide variety of authentic Tex-Mex is always served piping hot and is always delicious. Go for it and order either the half or whole pitcher of margaritas on the rocks or the frozen margaritas and you won’t have to wait to re-fill your glass! Even the generously served salsa is always fresh with just the right amount of kick. The quesado and taquito appetizers are tasty, so a good choice to start is the combo. In fact, for the main course its worth checking out the combo suggestions on the menu as well so that way you can experience a wider variety of Ah! Chihuahua’s take on authentic Tex-Mex. Even easier is just keep coming back and ordering something different each time. The place is authentically decorated; small and 'intimate'; with service that is friendly and accommodating (call ahead if you’re going to be a larger party so you can be sure to have a table waiting).

This is a great small authentic mexican spot! Enchiladas were fantastic and the food came out very quickly. It is a very small place but they have solid amount mexican beers and the margaritas were decent. I am the kind of person that likes authentic mexican and not the NYC trendy mexican spots. I will be going back!
