Yummy!
I took my mother here for dinner and we had a great meal. We had reservations and were seated promptly (although I don't think you need them--it wasn't full). We sat in the patio and the service was fine, nothing great. The food was excellent though. We both had enchiladas and the guacamole is excellent also. It's kind of expensive, not too fancy, but nice. I plan on going back again.

Agave has the touch for SW cooking
I walked from the horrid ny streets into Agave. No wait for a table. We enjoyed the decor. The waitstaff didn't rush us and seated the two of us next to the adobe fireplace. I had the Blue Crab Quesadilla and my lady friend had the steak quesadilla. Let's not forget the seasoned garliky fries and guac with chips before the meal. All was beyond good. I was offerd a myriad of drink refills by my waiter. It's a bit pricey but save some cash and bring a date. Great bar by the front and lowered seating for dinners keeps Agave drinkers seperated from dinners with class. Bring a Date. This place is made for couples.

Disappointing...
Food was mediocre, not bad, but not terribly good either. Southwest/Mexican is just tough in NYC, there aren't many good restaraunts in this genre. It's not exactly cheap, so I would deem it a poor value as well.

What's happened to this place?
New owner? New staff? Something is wrong here. I've eaten at Agave many, many times...even recommended it. But when I (almost) visited again at the beginning of August, I was treated quite poorly. Started with the grouchy guy with the reservations list. The place was absolutely empty, yet he wouldn't seat me until the other member of my party arrived--so I left. Tried again the next night, friend in tow. Again, the place was empty but the waitperson (a young woman who didn't seem to know where she was!) wasn't sure where to seat us. Meanwhile, a woman at the bar doing the books, just glared us right out the door (and yes, we were well-dressed and well-spoken) Agave, what's the problem? Your food used to be soooo good. True, now you have quite a bit of competition in the W. Village. ..so why not be courteous? When the chill is on the service, instead of the frozen margarita, do yourself a favor and go elsewhere.

Great for a trip with friends!
Went here the other night with 5 other people- First time any of us had ever been there. The restaurant does not look like much from the outside, but the inside is very cute- it even had a fireplace with candles lit inside it! The food was ok, just pretty standard mexican food (I got a chicken quesadilla) and glass of wine, which was not very good, and I should learn not to order wine at mexican restaurants. The others had margarita's which the enjoyed immensely. The service was good as well, pretty standard for a "nicer" restaurant. Also, the prices were pretty standard as well, albeit a little high for melted cheese and tortilla chips, but this is the west village so I guess you can understand. All in all, I would recommend this place if you are going with somefriends for a nice evening out!

Great atmosphere, food, drink, and fun
I had a wonderful meal here on Saturday night. We were drawn in by the wood-beamed ceilings, buzzing bar, and giant cactus; we're glad we ventured in! Our waitress was one of the best I've had in the city: friendly, helpful (she recommended a wonderful bottle of wine which also happened to be the least expensive bottle), and attentive. The lobster quessadillas (with enormous chunks of fresh lobster) should not be missed.

Poor service
We sat for over 30 minutes before being greeted by ANYONE! Our waiter came over once in 1.5 hours. Our second drinks came after the meal... very poor service. They price is too high for the experience....Also, the manager was no help to us...
