    Excellent everything

Everything about this place was wonderful. The atmosphere was very unique and relaxing. The only problem was having to read the menu by candlelight. The short ribs were the best i have ever had. My gf had the Chilaquiles and they were almost as good. Our waiter was friendly prompt and knew a lot about tequila. We had barely gotten into the complimentary chips before our food arrived. I would highly reccommend Agave for any occasion.

    Spotty Food ... Fantastic Service

Had Dinner at Agave last Friday Night - Aug 3. Before I tell you of my Food Experience, and while you are still reading, when you visit Agave, ask to be seated on "Scott H's" (server 11) Station. If he is not there, just have a drink, and leave ! (Observed 'other' servers giving normal, snooty or lame service to other tables in the dining room). Scott is most probably the BEST Server I have had in NYC in many, many years. Flawless in his manner, style, service, professionalism, menu knowledge, and looks. Now about the food: The Spiced Olive-Pico de Gallo-Chile Verde with Blue Corn Chip Muse was very good. Would have been great if the Chips had been warmed (these were tough, almost chewy, obviously from the humidity on one of New York's hottest evenings of the Summer). The Guacamole ($11), albeit attractive, was 'tres ordinaire' being made with 'Too Dark' Avocados and served with a 'way too much' side of Sour Cream and tasteless Diced Tomatoes (and the same miserable chips). I must admit, I am spoiled on Guacamole, as I have a love affair with the iteration served at Rosa Mexicana - THE BEST ! ! On to the "Summer Leaves" Side Salad ($8). Just plain, unexciting, though pristene Mesclun Mix with a bland non-descript Dressing. Nothing special, and overpriced for the portion and ingredient offerings. My entree, Beef Machaca Enchiladas ($19) were not bad, and would have been worth the money but they had a much too sweet flavor note. Not sure from what, just Sweet. Could not distinguish the promised Tres Quesos. The Enchiladas were served a large mound of "Tex-Mex Style" (tasteless) Red Rice, certainly not Spanish, Mexican, or Tex-Mex ! The other end of the Platter sported the expected mound Hacked Iceberg Garnish topped with a Red Radish Rosette, a wisp of the same Guacamole and a shmeer of Sour Cream. Looking for something sweeter than the Enchiladas, I sampled two desserts: the Flan ($8) supposed to be a creamy Mexican Custard was really more like Creme Caramel.

Too high for what you get!!

I have to agree with previous customer. This food should be called "mexican fusion" with all that they offer. Mexican food shoud not be "this expensive" and the service was not up to par! Drinks were just okay...will not recommend this place to anyone! Food very mediocre! There are plenty of other "good mexican restaurants"!!

    Dont believe the hype

We were not impressed at all with the food. The guacamole tasted straight out of a can. It was like pure lime! We could not eat it. We rarely ever send food back but kindly told our server that we did not like it and he suprised us when he promptly removed it and said he would take it off the check. Perhaps he knew something about the guac that we didn't? As for the main course, maybe we were just so turned off by the guacamole but the entrees didn't seem any better. The Fajitas of Wagyu Kobe Beef Skirt Steak were kind of tasteless and chewy and the Camarones Al Ajillo were over cooked-- dry and bland. We decided to skip dessert. Maybe they had an off night in the kitchen but it wasn't all that bad. The service was very good and they have a great happy hour at the bar. We did enjoy the margaritas and for half price! We will definitely return for the happy hour...

    Best Margarita I've ever had!!!

Went for lunch. The prefixe lunch is a really great deal. The food was good. Definitely not the best mexican I've had but fine nonetheless. But the margarita--oh. my. god. It was a frozen strawberry margarita and had a whole glass of real strawberries in the bottom. I could have eaten it with a spoon. It was unreal. I will be back again JUST for the margarita (and will eat another meal too)!!! Worth it!

I have nothing but good things to say about Agave!! Everything about our dinner was wonderful. The food and drinks were so fresh and tasty, and the servers took excellent care of us! I would recommend this in a second to anyone.
