The front of the house needs work

My third time at AG Kitchen. While the food is always tasty and well presented, it is very overpriced. What is worse, the service personnel is nice but incompetent, and last night was the most disappointing. We had an early New Year's eve dinner. Our waitress brought us a bottle of champagne and was obviously pleased when she loudly popped the cork sending it flying. She seemed surprised when I instructed her to ask the bartender to teach her how to open a bottle correctly to avoid injuring someone (New Year's eve after all). She left us the bottle, with no service towel, and no wine stand. Our order was placed incorrectly. There was no bottle service, we poured every glass ourselves, using our table napkins to wipe the bottle. All I can say is, I really miss City Grill, which always had great service, delicious food and was reasonable. I doubt I will be back ---3 strikes and you're out.

    A few more months...maybe...

Service is way too slow. Menu is too limited. Food is inconsistent.

Anyone who knocks this place doesn't know what they're talking about. The food is amazing! Best guacamole on the UWS. Fish tacos are to DIE for! Burgers are out of control. Service can be inconsistent and abrupt when busy, but friendly, but the prices are reasonable and its comfortably casual. The bar is cool and there is also a nice lounge separate from the dining room if you wanna just chill with drinks and apps. Its still a new restaurant so I think any service issues will get solved. The last couple of restaurants in that location were pretty awful so I hope this sticks around for a long while.

We've tried this place 5 times now. Warm beer, warm Proseco, cold burgers, greasy fries, messed up orders and ridiculously slow service. Staff is friendly but mgr is argumentative & dismissive. they run out of items constantly and can't handle the crowd they get and seemingly want. I've waited as long as an hour for overpriced burgers that aren't worth the wait. they have good chicken dishes - but the whole place is an overpriced mishmash of average food and really long waits. 5 times is enough. We tried. They failed.

A couple of slip-ups but otherwise great food

Agree about the nicely spiced but soggy, greasy fries, and the tuna burger was a bit overcooked the first time -- better when we tried it a second time. Regular burgers were perfect (interesting toppings) and the home-made ketchup with mango is great. Ice tea too watery but fun Latin-style cocktails just right. Would definitely come back but they need to work out a few kinks that would make this a perfect place.

    Fabulous addition to the neighborhood!

Chef Alex Garcia has created a winner. Like the original Calle Ocho, AG Kitchen has a festive and easygoing vibe. Service is efficient and friendly without being overly solicitous -- the manager circulated among the tables all evening, a sight rarely seen in mid-priced NY restaurants. Burgers served in cute picnic boxes (although the fries were sadly overly greasy and soggy). Very interesting melange of Latin flavors that evoke those in a laid-back beach town spot. Colorful lighting and semi-open kitchen make this a very welcome addition to the usual safe-bet UWS pasta/burger/pizza restaurant. Definitely returning!
