Subpar Service, Tasteless old cold food
I visited the location on 116th St. several times, and this was the poorest service and quality of food I received. The meal was cold, and the fish was old. We had to ask for napkins, no bread was served with meals, no asking us was everything OK, and we were never acknowledge once served. I asked for the bill several times .. then I went directly to the register to pay myself (of course, no tip was given). More attention was given to Africans patrons than to Black Americans. The young African women waitress sporting dreads and glasses was so non-chalant towards us, I took it personally. I think this restaurant needs a visit from the health department.

Excellent Food
Hands down one of the best discoveries in New York. This restaurant is excellent with their authentic African dishes. One will be amazed at how flavorful and seasoned the food is. The signature dish is the Dibi, which is grilled lamb with caramelized onions. Any baked or broiled fish on the menu is totally worth it. The fish is usually always enough to feed two people. The array of seasonings and spices mixed will give your palate a welcome treat!

Good food
My african friend was coming into town for the holidays and I wanted to treat him while he introduced me to african cuisine. Although the food was very, very good, the service was not too good toward the end of the meal when we wanted to leave. Despite all of that it was a nice restaurant. Cozy, clean and good food.

What Happened?
I use to frequent this place before it moved to 116th Street, I use to go when it had it's humble begginings on 47th in the back of the diner. The food was exceptional........but the last TWO times I visited the 116th location the food was okay. Not Exceptional, the first time the food was cold and not as tasty as I remembered, the second time it was not tasty either. So I will have to find another West African Restaurant that delivers HOT Flavor.

BEST Authentic African Food in the City
The food is out of this world and AUTHENTIC. Unlike other neighborhood African restaurants the staff is inviting and speaks English. There also has a beautiful large dining room. Portions are more than enough and the food is seasoned to perfection. The only downside is that the menu changes daily so you have to know what day (and even time of day) to catch your favorite dish. Mine is Thiebu Djen (Daily Senegalese Meal )a rich fish and vegetable stew over broken rice. FYI it is only served during lunch and goes FAST!
