Afghan Kebab House #1
Posted by sgeNYC on 09/30/2007
Our daughter was visiting and wanted kebabs. I got on line and lucked into the Afghan Kebab House #1, which just happened to be near our theater. The gentleman who greeted us was very polite and friendly. He was also the server and everything else "front of the house". It's a tiny little place. We all had lamb dishes, but each got something a little different. The kafta, tikka and korma were all delicious. The lamb was tender and well seasoned. The brown basmati rice was also a wonderful side and the salad was nice too, with fresh, crispy ingredients. Yes, it may be iceberg, but that's quite traditional. We left for our show very satisfied. I would recommend this little spot to anyone who enjoys good Afghan food. It's a BYOB, so if you don't want just a soda, tea or water, bring your own.

The food is delicious and a bargin. We bring out town family and friends for exotic, comfort food. The service is friendly, attentive and unobtrusive. Loved this place for over 10 years and will love it for the next 10 years.

What a great food experience this little place turned out to be. We had a full dinner experience in a cozy atmosphere; the service though wasn't top notch but it was good enough. I will surely go back as it is a fantastic deal for the taste and price.

This place is so cute and the food was awesome. The appitizers didn't have much flavor but they provide many sauces. The Kabeb's are flavorful, the salad is a general American iceberg lettuce. This place is a BYOB with no charge which is awesome! They have no coffee products however, only green tea. Definitly a good place to go, atmosphere and great food. Nice staff.

Their food is always good. Every time I go there, it's just perfect. Their Qabuli palau is amazing and an Afghan specialty. The chicken kabab is tasty too, really juicy and boneless. All in all, great food and reasonably priced.

We have been to Afghan restaurants around the country. This one is pretty good since it does not create the expectation of a great place by its unassuming status. The kebabs were excellent whether chicken or red meat. The pilaw rice that came with the kebab was also excellent and not greasy. The appetizers though were rather plane and the salad had no dressing. The bread is good but can't beat the oven baked authentic bread that some Afghan restaurants serve. Overall, pretty good.
