Dill sauce to die for
The rice is delicious, the dill sauce delightful. Just be careful not to squeeze the bottle too vigorously with excitement--the cap plunked off mine and I got way more than intended. Not that I'm complaining. I can't get enough of Afghan Kebab House and it's ridiculously good sauce. The cauliflower, spinach and pumkin were all incredible. Be sure to get the dinner rather than the sides, because the rice and dill topping are so worth it.

The most amazing appetizer ever
Try the Pumpkin Bolanee Appetizer...these are friend pumpkin turnovers with mint yogurt....it'll give a new exotic twist to the fall favorite.

My Favorite NYC Restaurant since 1986
For ten years I lived across the street from this wonderful restaurant. I have taken countless friends and relatives here and without exception they have all loved it. In fact, when coming back in town guests demand to go again! The only sad thing is that I have moved out of the city and rarely have the opportunity to eat here any more. None of the other reviews have mentioned the Red and Green sauces. They are fantastic - though they are on the spicy hot side so caution if you don't like spicy. They are different and better than the similar sauces in the other Afghan Kabob Houses. I also like the Turshee - better known to us as pickled vegetables. Again, not for the faint of heart; however, if you like pickled vegetables though, they don't get better than this. And finally, the Firnee is a delicious light dessert which makes a wonderful finish to this fantastic meal. Portions are generous without being gluttonous. I am always well satisfied and eager for my next opportunity to eat there. Bring your own wine or beer. And be ready to relax and enjoy some of the best food in NYC.

My favorite Afghan restaurant
I've been coming to the Afghan Kebab House since 1987 and the food has always been phenomenal. I have taken friends and family there and everyone always raves about how simple and good the food is. I generally stick with the lamb tikka kebab or the beef tikka kebab, though I've also had the chicken and it's excellent, as well. The eggplant appetizer is amazing, and I love the sambosas. I can't recommend this place highly enough -- very affordable and great food.

Very good meal
I ordered the chicken breast kabob. The pieces of chicken were nicely grilled over charchoal. The edges had an excellent crunch to them. Some of the pieces, however, were a bit on the small side. The quality was excellent. The accompyning salad was good and was very fresh. The rice was excellent. The salad dressing and sauces were very strong, but excellent none the less. I love middle eastern food and this is one of the best places I've found in New York. The prices are reasonable. You receive a lot of value. The only thing is that the resteraunt is cramped and I found the bread to be nothing special.

Excellent food & the best salad dressing
I love this place. Their food is delicious and a fantastic value. And their salad dressing is absolutely amazing, better than any 5 star restaurant. The waitstaff are extremely nice and courteous. The restaurant itself is ok - not the best decor. But for a casual night out, it's just right. I have ordered in from here numerous times and the food is just as good as eating there. If only I could get the recipe for their salad dressing....
