Afghan Kebab House #1
Posted by Eugene K on 12/30/2014
We were visiting this place for last 10 years for business lunch. The food is good. Last week they've changed management. First he gave us dinner menu instead of lunch menu. Meaning the same dishes by much higher prices. The place has BYOB sticker. At the end of lunch we found a cork charge for wine we brought in. The new manager refused to take it off, claiming its a new policy, despite the fact that it's not reflected on the menu. Extra $7 for rice that for last 15 years was complimentary. After we left w/o leaving tips he said that he doesn't want to see us in his restaurant anymore.

I've been eating at Afghan Kebob House for the past 30 years!! We eat in and we also order up. I'm pretty sure that the ownership changed in the past couple of years. They used to have excellent and very inexpensive food - and their service was great. No more. The food is iffy. Some items are OK, some are lousy. Everything is too spicy. They screw up the delivery orders every single time. And the most recent time, they sent the wrong thing and when I called to get it fixed, they were very argumentative. Also, the lamb kofta kebab, which used to be great, had hard pieces of grizzle in it. We will not eat there or order from there anymore. Shame.

I was unsure what to expect from Afghan food but it was delicious and the service was great.

I visited this place with my husband and two boys. The atmosphere is nice although it is quite cramped and small. My real complaint is the food. I've had afghan food many times and I would never compare restaurant food to a home cooked meal but this was just subpar Just because you you use a lot of spices and seasonings doesn't mean it's going to taste good. The meats ( including chicken, lamb and kofta) had no flavor. You could tell that they NOT been marinated instead just cut, spiced and cooked which does not allow any of the flavors to permeate the meat. With so many afghan restaurants in the area this is one that I will not be returning to.

I had to guess at the "atmosphere" question because we order in and I've never sat at their tables. But the atmosphere in my home is just great when we order in their food. It's worth it alone for the white sauce (we slather it on everything and they're very generous with it) and everything from kabobs to salad are tasty and fresh. And did I mention the white sauce? I could drink it with a straw. Very good food. And the staff are as good as the sauce. Nice people.
