    Aqua the graet

Aqua has the best brick oven pizza on the upper west side.

    Good and gooder

Acqua is a good, sometimes very good, neighborhood place. When it opened, the food was a little bland, but it's developed nuance and interest. Not strictly Italian (it's Mediterranean), the grilled shrimp and arugula salad is wonderful, they do great things with beans, and a pasta I had the other night (small shrimp, various vegetables, white wine and garlic sauce) was a pleasure. Service is uneven, but the decor is warm and clean (wood paneling), and it's one of the few decent restaurants where you can carry on a conversation without shouting. It's also very kid friendly. Is it the best restaurant in New York? No way. Is it good and a decent value? Absolutely.

No comparison to Real Italian Food

I disagree with a lot of the reviews on this page. I lived in Italy for 6 years and frequently ate out and got to get a very high understanding of the quality and characteristics of Italian food.....This place does not reflect in anyway real Italian cooking nor Italian traditions. The service was disappointing too.

    Downhill

I agree that this place used to be much better. The food is still good, but their service has turned me off to this place. Its a lot tougher to appreciate a restaurant when you feel that they don't appreciate your business. They need to step it up.

    They Can't!

I completely agree with the last post. This place has gone downhill, and it's not b/c of the food. Treatment to customers is not very good. Hopefully there will be improvement, and perhaps the place can be salvaged
