Not Good
Had dinner here when the wait at Great Jones Cafe was too long. Big mistake. I can usually eat anything, and I rarely leave a restaurant dissatisfied with the food, but I can honestly say this was one of the most disappointing meals I've had in 3 years in NYC. And the other members of my party agreed. Maybe I caught it on a bad night, but I wouldn't even consider going back there again.

What happened to the Service?
Staff here used to be really friendly and outgoing. Now it seems like they are always upset or surly. The waitresses spend a lot of time whispering to each other which makes patrons feel weird. I love the fried chicken here and the brunch is amazing for the price so I will definitely be back, but they need to get back to being a friendly, southern place.

really greasy
I ordered one of the greasiest veggie burgers I have ever eaten. Definitely not worth it.

Southern Food that tries, but fails.
I ordered the gulf shrimp. Little did I know what I really ordered was fries with a side of shrimp. I suppose seafood wasn't the right thing to get at a restaurant supposedly specializing in southern cuisine but last time I checked, seafood is a Cajun specialty. Clearly Acme did nothing to resolve this oddity. $20 doesn't seem to justify 4-5 pieces of shrimp, french fries, and mashed potatoes. But if mediocre "southern" cuisine is your thing, more power to you.

Not worth it
My friend and I recently checked this place out because the menu looked promising and the reviews were positive. I had the chicken supper with fries and mashed potatoes. My friend had the gumbo shrimp with the same sides. Both entrees were very mediocre. Popeyes and KFC make better fried chicken in all honesty. The fries were bland. The shrimp was nothing special. Mashed potatoes were probably the best part of the meal, but still nothing special. In the end, the food is decent but for $15 each entree, it isn't worth it. If I ever go back, I will try the catfish dishes that everyone seems to rave about. I recommend you do the same.

Nice place to have dinner
We had a pleasant dinner in Acmebarandgrill, on Sept.15, we ate Granny's fried okra, Mississippi catfish fingers, Louisiana sefood gumbo and Creole jambalaya, plus two Brooklyn lager beers. Very good food in large servings.

One Of My Favorites...Great Food!
Been eating here regularly since 1988...have never had a bad meal here. Every meal is a treat...great food, terrific service, and a fun atmosphere. I love the amazing [select]ion of sauces on the wall, there to grab. My favorite is the Tiger Sauce. As for the food, I love everything. The catfish sandwich is fantastic. The Oyster Po' Boy is stuff of dreams. The Meatloaf is always perfect, never dry. I love the mashed here. Doesn't get any better. You might not see perfect Zagat ratings for Acme, but just ask any real customer who eats there, and they will give it superior ratings. I live in Gramercy, but always make my way to the Village to enjoy Acme.
