pretty bland
Maybe that's the way you UES'ers like it, but the meat quality was very poor and the sauces bland. Delivery was lightning fast though, so if you want mediocre food fast, this is your place.

Best indian delivery on UES
Best Indian delivery on UES. Unfortunately that is not saying much. Unless your looking for an upscale dine-in experience, there aren't many choices for Indian on the UES. Folks from other neighborhoods (particularly the curry hill area) will be disappointed. That being said, it's decent. Delivery is reliable and the food is okay. If you need to satisfy that curry itch, you can do it here.

This is the Best
I must say that this is by far the best Indian I have had since being in the city! My wife and I order at least once a week, and eat at Shamrat once a month. The delivery is always prompt and freindly and the food is hot - just as if we were eating at the resturaunt! The service when eating here is extremely attentive, and the place is usually not packed, making for a pleasant evening meal over which to talk and visit with friends. The chicken is always all-white-meat, tender, and succulent, and the cheese naan is to die for!

Good enough for me
Caveat: I have been eating Indian food for only a year, but think this place is very good. At most places I stick w/ the Chicken Tikka Masala, but decided to be adventurous here and went with the vindaloo. It was excellent. The only negative about this place is that the atmosphere is a little weak...luckily my date was a tiny barrel of monkeys.

Not Baluchi's
I tried this place because the closest Baluchi's closed down. I found out (after the fact) that it seems like I can still order from the one on E.81st. After searching menupages and reading the reviews (4 stars), Shamrat seemed promising as a replacement for Indian take-out. I had ordered the Chicken Kurma and the Saag Paneer. The food was ok, but nothing to rave about. It tasted much like the restaurants in Little India on E 6th st. The Kurma's sauce was ok - not very rich/creamy, but pleasant. The chicken in it was bland and overcooked- it tasted like they just plopped it into the sauce right before delivery. The Saag Paneer was ok too - a bit salty, but passable. Overall I would rate as a solid C - ok Indian for a reasonable price. Definitely not 4 stars, though - and definitely not Baluchi's.

Amazing
Best Indian in the Upper East Side by far! The owner and servers are very friendly and attentive, and it is just a wonderful experience.

Yum Yum Yum
45 minutes ago I was reading these reviews in search of a good, quality Indian restaurant on the UES to order take-out from... My husband and I are now enjoying the curry chicken and the chicken korma and we must say- it is wonderful!! Excellent quality, very tasty, all white-meat chicken- we will definitely make this a weekly staple!
