Loud music, Lousy Waiter, Limited Menu

We are used to wonderful steakhouses in NYC and, frankly, we wonder how this place stays in business. I must say the food was good, though the cauliflower was burnt and cold as a side dish and the steak for two was not really for two steak lovers (husband and son). The cod was good and the salads excellent. That said, we had an untrained waitress and when we spoke to the manager not much happened. We waited 25 minutes after our order for drinks (nothing fancy--scotch on the rocks and scotch and soda). We only tipped the waitress because it is our hope she will return to college and pursue a better career!! It was so noisy that my husband had difficulty hearing, the lighting so ineffective we struggled to read the menu. All in all, a HUGE disappointment. Don't go there!

Don't spend your hard earned money!!

I enter to celebrate a 30th birthday with my best friends husband and friends. The table was ready when we arrived. However we had to wait for a long time for a waiter to come over. The popovers that the waiter brought over the table were burnt. Then the food took a long time to come. For the expensive price, the food should have been much better. It needed to be seasoned more. The best part of the dinner was the ice cream cake that my friend bought with her to the restaurant for her husband's birthday. The crowd is stuffy and its not worth the money for the service and food.

    Okay!

I've never worked in a restaurant. So, I don't want to spend too much time speculating as to why certain people were sat upstairs in the dark, while countless tables were open on the main floor. There did appear to be a certain "look" had by all the patrons on the main floor. Outside of that, the service was good. Our waitress was extremely personable and earned her 20% tip. The food was good. Not great. But, good. If you're looking for a scene, decent food, and have the money to spend, this restaurant will appeal to you.

    Great place!

I went here for my boyfriend's 31st birthday. I was a little worried because of some of the reviews. I was concerned about waiting for a table even though we had a reservation, but everything was great! We had an 8:00 reservation, we got there at 7:45 and they sat us right away. The waiter was so friendly, helped us picking wines. Everytime I needed a new glass he was there. We both had the filet mignon and thought it was amazing! No need for steak sauce. We also got the creamed spinach and the sweet garlic mashed potatos which was amazing also. The atmosphere is really nice. Great for people watching! It was a little loud-not music just very crowded so a lot of people talking made it a little loud, but not enough that it would ruin my dinner or make me not want to go back. I was really happy that I went here despite some of the reviews. Awesome place, expensive place, but definately worth it!!!I highly recommend it!!

    Tries hard. Fails hard.

Starting with the door service this place captures what is embarrassing about New York dining and leaves out what is good. The staff are pretty clueless and employed for their looks. The crowd is generally people who are more interested in being noticed than having good food or a good time. Avoid the seafood tower. The grilled octopus was great. (By the time we were seated (40 minutes late) I didn't trust the place to deliver a good steak). If it tried a little less hard it could be a great place.

    comfort food added

It had been awhile since I had been to Abe and Arthur’s, and I remembered the fun vibe but I had forgotten how good the food was. The last time I was here me and my friends ate light; the tuna tar tar tacos and the crab cake stick out in my head as my favorites. But in the dead of winter, light fare wasn’t going to do the trick. I was excited when I saw the short ribs addition to the menu. They were truly melt in your mouth, couldn’t get enough, delicious. Served with roasted vegetables and mashed potatoes, it was an A+ comfort food dish.

    somewhat impressed

Only waited about 20 minutes for our 930 res. Got a drink at the bar filled with models. Waiteress very nice, amazing complimenteray popovers. Mussel appetizer is bet for the price and amazing, so were tuna tacos. Shortribs for the main were perfect, and so was the tuna, both generous portions. Truffe parm fries for a side were. Drinks are abour $15 each, but generous
