will return
went there after a matinee and we were an hour early for our res. but they allowed us to come in and treated us very well. ravioli was wonderful and dessert fantastic. my only complaint is that they started to clear the dishes before everyone was done eating. that's a definite no-no for a highend restaruant. despite that I will definitely return. the panna cotta was sooo good!

A gem of a restaurant
This gem of a restaurant has it all: innovative food, impeccable service, ambiance, and a Midtown location. The Tagliatelle with the Bolognese meat sauce was delicate but hearty on a cold winter night. The Skate Piccata was also perfectly done. Due to the snow storm the prior night roads were difficult and one of our party was late. Despite being seated and ordering at different times our food came out together and well prepared in time for our show. The ambiance is just right. Not to noisy so you cannot have a conversation, not too quiet so that it is oppressive. It is right across from the City Center theater and next door to a parking garage. While the prices are not inexpensive, the value on the dollar is excellent. I would recommend this restaurant for pre-theater, a date, to impress the in-laws, or just for a great meal.

overpriced / tourist trap?
We went here late on a Wednesday evening (10PM) after arriving at the hotel from our flight. It was close to the hotel and the menu appeared reasonable. We had a well-behaved three year old with us and the server was very helpful in accommodating us. The food and pricing were, however something else. The spaghetti which my wife requested for her three, two-inch meatballs was al dente, that is if by "al dente" you mean pasta quickly dipped in boiling water. The risotto balls were tiny, DEEEP fried balls of what can best be described as old rice, (maybe leftover?) They charged us $23 for the bowl of hard pasta PLUS another $8 for the three meatballs (they were listed as an appetizer). Yes, you read right, $31 for essentially spaghetti and meatballs. They also charged us $6 for a small (6oz) glass of milk for our daughter. The one redeeming part of the meal was the house-made tiramisu which was perfect but too little to late to save this disaster of a meal. For two adults and a three year old the bill came to $142 before tip for what was the most mediocre italian food I have ever had.

Overpriced Non-alcoholic Beverage Bill
I enjoyed a lovely pre-theater dinner and the waiter was helpful if not somewhat chatty. I read the prices on the menu and found them comparable to other establishments in the area. However, $6.00 for a 10 oz bottle of Pepsi and $5.00 for a cup of Lipton tea is inexcusable and will keep me from returning to the restaurant.

Great Experience
Dined in this restaurant this past Friday. Service was excellent - waiter considerately asked us if we had a show to get to which we did & served our meal accordingly. Ambience was nice - our table was ok. Shared two appetizers, the Arrancini, which were to die for and home-made mozzarella w/balsamic vinegar, also very good. Also shared the butternut squash ravioli w/sage butter & the beet/gorgonzola ravioli. Both extremely delicious. Although the food was great, the portions are very small especially the appetizers. We are 2 women who were satisfied, but not so sure if the husbands would have agreed. 2 Appetizers, 2 Entrees & 4 White Grape Martinis (outstanding!!) came to $180, tip included. They did offer a set menu for $35/pp, but the choices did not interest us. Would definitely go back!

Not worth it
Better to get a slice of pizza around the corner. You will feel used when you're done here. Food is par. No better and way to expensive for what it is. The staff is not good. Nice but incompetent. You're in New York - there's no reason to eat at Abboccato. Ever.
