Excellent food at reasonable prices
I ate here once before when it was "Sultan's Table" but don't remember it being anything more than the standard Turkish restaurant. Last night I returned to the new version of this restaurant and was very pleasantly surprised by both the quality of the food and the service (given the negative statements in one review.) I had chicken stuffed with pistachios for $14.95 and was very impressed with both the novelty of the dish and how it tasted. Considering the very reasonable price, I feel like I had real value for my money. I should add that my wife is Turkish and has become rather jaded by Turkish restaurants in NY. A La Turka really impressed her. With respect to service, it was just fine. Highly recommended.

excellent food, bad service
We have been going to A La Turka since it opened and while we always enjoy the food, we always leave hoping the bad service will improve - this last time, though, was ridiculous. We must have waited about 20 minutes for bread after the hummus came out and then another 20 minutes after we were done for our check. However, the hummus, salads, and kebabs are so good we'll definitely be ordering delivery!

Love the Kebabs
Great food, which keeps us going back--Service is unpredictable, but the hosts/waiters are certainly welcoming and friendly. One thing to fix--beverages. Wine was undrinkable and so was the Coke. I've learned to stick to water---but those kebabs and that rice---that's why we return.

a fine welcome to the neighborhood
As a new resident to the upper east, I was anxious to try all the new restaurants that line 1st and 2nd avenue. I liked the friendly vibe of A La Turka as soon as I walked by it and went in on a whim. We were treated with some of the best service I've ever experienced! The owner (?) pulled 2 tables together so we wouldn't feel cramped with all the food that was layed out before us; bread was refreshed instantly and he even mixed one of the martinis himself because my companion was a little hesitant to try it out. While we lingered over our excellent meal (stuffed chicken- HUGE portions), the owner came by and offered me a complimentary glass of wine! This is most definitely a "neighborhood" joint, as service is extended in a way that assures repeat business! I will definitely be coming back again!

Good Value
the breads and dips are good (they were our of the ground lamb on flatbread which I really wanted to try) the mix deal is a steal and there's no way one can leave this place feeling deprived or hungry. The one thing that they need to work on is the winelist, it is a total joke. They should add more, cheaper sparklings, reislings etc as the food is heavy and spicy (in a good way!)

Great
Cozy atmosphere and the charm of the smell of the special bread coming from the kitchen makes it irresistable.I must say that cold appetizers with bread is my favourite while i'm waiting my main dish:)Also the professional and kind waiters just enhance the charm of A La Turca.

Best Grilled Fish in the UES
This place masters the grilled fish, at a very modest price. Try the Branzoni, a Mediterranean fish rarely found in NYC. Grilled to perfection, only $19. A don't miss.
