One of the best restaurants in NYC, period!
The food is sublime. I have never experienced French Caribbean cuisine this exquisitely done. As a bonus, the atmosphere is warm, casual, and intimate. The owners really make your dining experience feel personal as well. I cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough. I hope that this portends good things to come for the UWS.

Amazing
It is nice to see a true, small, all homemade restaurant on the UWS. The value is amazing, a $20 price fix M-F until 8:00PM. The food is fresh and so tasty. The staff is very friendly. The BYOB is the icing on the cake.

Just What the UWS Needs
Our party of four arrived at 6 PM and enjoyed a fine first evening at A: a warm greeting from the gentle young man who appeared to be the sole chef and server for the entire small restaurant followed by carefully prepared choices from the unusual menu, many of which were organic and/or vegetarian. They arrived promptly, plated in an attractive manner, were fairly priced, considering the expensive ingredients, and portions were adequate and satisfying without swimming in fat and nicely spiced without being over salted. Dividends: parking spaces are easily available in the adjacent street, the expresso delivered flavor lacking in many more famous locales, and the moderate noise level, at least early in the evening, permitted easy conversation.

the best confit in the world (really)
The duck confit, to say the least, is the best in the world. The organically raised lamb merguez sausage is perfectly balanced in its fig and date sweetened, mildly spicy sauce I can say that I actually crave it. There are vegan dishes as well, including a seitan "meat loaf" that tasted like fine beef pate. The kitchen is too small to be able to serve fresh greens but at half the price of the next comparable restaurant and BYOB wine I can do without the greens. The desserts are good. I usually have the molten chocolate cake or creme brulee. The portions are ample for the price of such fine food. The food is rich enough to leave me completely sated every time, often without dessert. It can get loud on weekends and during prime time the wait can be long so we usually eat there on week days. The owners treat their customers like friends and family so if you expect formal, pretentious service you'll be disappointed. They'll be changing the menu for Spring so go soon if you're planning to go at all. I'm pretty excited about a new batch of creations by these culinary alchemists.

The Best!
You can't go wrong here. Every single thing on the menu is cooked, flavored and served perfectly. It is definitely a menu for minimalists, but there is nothing wrong with that!! And all the ingredients are organic, so overall you leave satisfied but not disgustingly stuffed. And the owners are the most welcoming, kind people you can find. This is a must!!

underwhelming and too expensive
We went to this restaurant expecting food to meet its prices, but ended up paying around 20 dollars for tiny portions of seemingly microwaved food. The service and atmosphere were both nice, but the food was so incredibly not good that we left still hungry and upset. It seemed as if everything had come out of a can, or a tv dinner of some kind. Really not worth it, very disappointing.

disappointment
The ambience here is great, the owners are sweet, but the food is really subpar. They had a good prix fixe deal so I had an escargot appetizer and the chicken with jerk spices and chevre. The snails were bad and the chicken, served with couscous and no vegetables, was forgettable at best. I wish the food here were better because it could be a great (BYOB!) little spot.
