Yummy - One of the Best Places in NYC

The food here is "off the charts." I have been 3 times and each time I love it more. There is no sign in the front of the restaurant and the place is kind of small but the food makes up for all that. The staff is friendly if not fast. You can BYOBB but they have mixed fruit drinks that, like everything else, are out of this world. Oh and leave room for dessert - you won' regret a calorie. You can quickly spend a lot of money here but you will enjoy every penny.

    Always An Amazing Experience

A Bistro has become my favorite restaurant. I have been frequenting this restaurant since last summer and every time I go the food is on point. I bring friend's here and they are blown away by how good the food is. The atmosphere is small but laid back and not pretentious like most Manhattan restaurants. The host/hostess are always welcoming. Don't pass this gem up!

    Amazing food, great service...

Just went to A Bistro again last night and I was reminded how amazing the food is! I had the fried chicken (more pan seared) and my girlfriend had the snapper special. We started off with some of their special plantains (a must order) that were simply put - amazing. I would definitely go back again. I've been there on the weekend and the wait can definitely be tedious. My suggestion is to go early on the weekend or during the week when there is very little wait. It's BYOB, but not a big deal because there is a liquor/wine store right across the street where you can get a cheap bottle. We brought in Pinot Grigio and the waittress helped us chill it immediately and kept it in the fridge for us the entire time (then she even recorked and gave us what was left to take with us!). The area the restaurant is in isn't the best either, so be cognizant of that if you are not a local brooklynite.

Tastey food for 1.5 hour wait n pricey

The Food is GREAT-GREAT! especially the fish Salmon, Tilpa, and Trout. However, a BIT pricey for portion size. The Wait is EXTREMELY long better eat a half of sandwich before you get there and have time to spare. You must order an appeziter than eat there YUMMY Bread Pudding for desert, so you will be full. Atmosphere & Service are great! Spices are the best by far, never ate anything like it in Brooklyn.

    Too popular too soon

One thing I used to love about this place was the quiet laid back feel. But this last visit showed me that things have changed. First off the food is fantastic and I will def return during a weeknight. We had reservations for 8 but didn't get seated until 9. Apparently, A Bistro just got great reviews from the NY Times. The small space could not handle the crowd and the hostess was placating everyone by saying their tables were "just finishing dessert." Either get a bigger restaurant or turn people away.

    delicious but overpriced, small portions

Been to A Bistro several times the food is consistently delicious but the portions can be really small. It is overpriced, perhaps to make up for the fact that they don't make any $$ serving alcohol. If you have to wait for a seat, which you always do, there is no place to wait except behind a curtain by the door, and we had to move our table around a couple of times during our meal so people could get by. Pros and cons of an intimate atmosphere I guess. 3 of us racked up nearly a hundred dollars there and were still hungry when we got home. My advice for A Bistro patrons at this point is, get the fish and the gardenburger. It has some of the best fish I have ever eaten and hands-down the best garden burger in the world. Mussels and olives are good too. If you are starving you'd better be damn sure you get an appetizer all to yourself, not sharing it with all your friends because otherwise you may well still be hungry after your entree.
