The food here is good. The prices however, are ridiculous given the size of the portions. Also it took about 2 hours to get our delivery order, and I live about 5 blocks away. While the food is good, and high quality for the area, I will not be going back until someone posts here that they have either improved. I ordered Mac and Cheese with Cauliflower, an interesting twist, but it was gone in three bites and I forgot there was even cauliflower on it because they put so little.

The food was ok, not the best. my problem is the amount. it is nothing. for 10 dollars i bought a dinner salad and it was barely a very LOOSE handful of lettuce? meat wasn't in it, i at least expected a decent size salad at 10$.. NOT 6 white chopped leafs and 4 odd mini lemon/cheese fried balls(?) in there, what? the leaves and dressing tasted good, but by the time i tasted it, it was gone and i was far from full. My colleague ordered the fish dinner and vegetable dinner plate. fish was cooked to soggyness, way over priced for just, that and fries. Veggies are totally bland and the portions do not look right to form a grown persons meal. the mac n cheese w/ cauliflower added for extra $ was forgotten in the first delivery attempt. Athough (burnt) cookies were sent along by the friendly staff there for my troubles, only the mac and cheese came in the second attempt, and they completely forgot my roasted cauliflower, again. I just gave up. I wont order from here again. my ordered tallied up to 3 dinner plates and a side/ 43 dollars. they told me my total was 50 (gues they factored in a delivery/tip/charge for me but didnt tell me, so i tipped thinking 50 was the price, i realized later id actually double tipped them!? as if i didn't already feel robbed. they might be clean/nice staff but the prices make you think you'll be getting decent meals. it's sad and you're left hungry, oh and broke. :( .

anyone complaining about Life being gone is just whining and should stop. 983 essentially bough the place out, kept the menu with a few added imporvements, kept the staff and cleaned the place up ( which really needed to happen.) They didn't jack up the prices, which the would totally be in the right to do since the place was always affordable, and they kept the basic family feel of the place. The weekend bartender is fantastic. He has been there forever and always treats people with respect and knows the beer menu, booze selection and food there really well along with the neighborhood. Yeah its weird they serve wine out of dinky little glasses, esp when they are presenting the quality food they do, but maybe that will change. The small plates fo fresh vedgies are well though out and I bet will be seasonal, and the food overall is of higher quality and presentation then it used to be. Overall the place has only changed for the better and when you get your bill it still says Life Cafe on it, literally and not just on the amount your dinner added up to. On a side note, I do miss the specials they used to have, hopefully they will bring those back, and better wine glasses.

I wish they would have called this place Death. They certainly killed the Huevos Rancheros - where did the pomodoro (that's italian for tomato) sauce go from this dish? It's a sad day, but also 983 is cleaner and the burger, while I didn't have it, looked like an improvement from Life. Things change - so it goes.
