    Not worth the visit..

Pros: -Sangria was excellent -Tres Leches cake was also good Cons: -Lunch menu was very limited (didn't have the combo-sampler appetizer or the dish where you bbq your own meat on a fire..). -Only provided a menu in spanish -Only a small fraction of the items on the menu were actually available to be ordered. -Aroz con Pollo (Rice and Chicken) had the driest/hardest chicken you've ever had..just couldn't eat it. If you're going to go there, stick to the Sangria or try going at night when perhaps the menu is a bit more comprehensive.

    WOW! Tasty AND Classy

My boyfriend and I went on a dinner date and it was great! We ordered 2 sirloins with 2 sides and an avocado sald, and OMG was that steak good. Not only was the food great, but it was beautifully served as well. Very nice food presentation. This is definitely somewhere I'd recommend. Very impressive. Especially for the inwood area. Great service.

    Fabulous dinner spot

I have eaten at 809 several times and I have only good things to say about it. The food is great and artfully plated, and the service is excellent as well. It may be just a little overpriced... but it is worth it. Moreover if you go on a weekend night, you can go up to the club after dinner at no extra charge and dance (if you're not too stuffed). The atmosphere is laid-back and beautifully decorated, too- I recommend 809 to anyone and everyone.

    Very nicely surprised

I usually go out to eat down in Soho or the meatpacking district and have been to many different restaurants. I was a little weary to try something uptown since my last experience wasn't so great. We were sat in the upstairs area (Vip section). All the sheer curtains gave the area a very nice airy and sexy feel. The waitress was very nice and patient with all our orders. I had the ceviche of the day (shrimp and octopus) which was one of the best I have ever had along with the churrasco. The food was very good, the service was attentive, and the pricing was reasonable especially for drinks. I thought this place would be a good for birthday dinners because afterwards the place turns into a club/lounge with a good mix of music. I was pleasantly surprised and would definitely recommend over many others in the area.

    Intouch

I have had dinner and lunch here and its just OK,,I mean come on the room is tacky it looks like an updated version of what it used to be. The food compares to all the new restaurants that have opened. Unfortunately for us in the neighborhood no one has done anything different in terms of cuisine we are still limited and getting charged an arm and a leg for mediocre food and service which has always been my experience here. I recommend this place to those in the hood who dont feel like going to far for dinner.

    Excellent Food

I ate here with my girlfriend, and the first thing I found that differs to the consensus here is that I didn't find the food too expensive. They certainly charge enough that they need to set themselves out from the rest, but filet mignon = $24, paella = $20, martini = $10 ... not the end of the world. We ate the filet mignon and paella, and followed with a chocolate desert, and guac to start. We thought everything was excellent, well balanced flavors, and perfectly cooked. It was also very timely in arrival, and paid tribute to the local flavors/dishes. The service was pleasant, friendly, the waiter gave you a little introduction to the food when he brought it, but marking it on an 'expensive restaurant' (the market 809 is going for) scale, it wasn't really up to scratch. Just little things like having to wait too long for the first drinks order. The hostess wandering you through the restaurant while she figures out where you should sit, having to wave at people a few times to get the waiter over to the table. Again, none of these things were a problem for us, but on a critical level, they lack the snap they need to match the quality of food they serve. Atmosphere was very nice, they have these see-through curtains between tables which are pretty cool, and the artwork seems more interesting and carefully chosen than other places. There were things that mark them out as not quite achieving the level of restaurant they are going for, though. Whilst we were there there was a waitress on a stepladder in the middle of the restaurant putting up some sort of decor for an hour or so. The bathrooms were also a bit of a state. Again, this didn't really bother us, but if you'd just paid a $300 mark up on a bottle of dom perignon, I think you'd definitely feel a bit let down. Overall, as long as you're up for helping the restaurant to help you have a good time, 809 is a lovely restaurant, with great food. If you want to be a little more demanding when you spend this much money, you probably won't be getting the reverence you're after at 809.
