Don't how this joint got 4 stars. One of the worst NYC bagels I've had. And the coffee is stale and burnt. There are better bagels in the area. Go if you want to eat generic bagels for high price.

Having just moved to the UWS (which I've heard is bagel heaven), I was pretty excited to try out the local bagel place by my apartment. However, I was pretty disappointed. The man serving me was pretty surly and skimped a good deal on cream cheese. The bagels themselves were ok, not the best that I've had. Not sure if all the servers are like this or if it was just this one guy, but regardless, there are too many bagel shops in the UWS for me to deal with this. I won't be going back.

I order delivery a lot and delivery on the UWS can be lacking at best. Either the food is bad, the delivery people are hostile or it takes too long for the food to arrive. But 72nd Street Bagel is one of the exceptions. When I order for delivery (usually on the weekends) the person taking my order is always extremely friendly as are the delivery guys. Not to mention that the bagels are among the best on the UWS to begin with. For bagel lovers this place simply can't be beat

Pea soup consistently killer. combo sanwiches excellent. never had one but the custom salad line looks great. excellent spreads. The bagels: 3.5 out of a possible 5, good chew, not icky sweet like H+H. Very pleasant people. Go off-peak.

You know when you're staying at a Ho-Jo's for in stance, lets just say for the sake of conversation, hmm I don't know, Elkard, Indiana and you wake up in the morning, go down to the lobby for free doghnuts, bagels and coffee? You sit down with your free copy of USA Today, desperately wishing it was NY Post,, then you shake that off and concentrate at why you're sitting in this depressing hotel lobby.... and why are you sitting there you says to yourself...because of the goddam free buffett. So, here you are, just you and the bagel, all the different emotions running through your head, slower than the last day of school, "why am I here, why Indiana,, etc etc'...first step, lathering up this bagel with your, (what on the surface, apprears to be a decent looking bagel) mini tube of Philadelphia cream cheese and you begin shmearring away, once the shmear is complete, its go time and what happens? You bite into a tasteless, rock hard, dough ball in the form of a bagel. Well, if you have every gone through a similar experience, you know what a disappointing experience that is. In order to avoid making the same mistake twice, I suggest you stay away from 72nd St. Bagels. What an unexpected performance from that place, one would think that aside from Murray Hill, the UWS would be sprinkled with awesome little bagel spots...not a chance... Further more, the fact that I live on 72nd St and I was/am in desperate need of a solid bagel to shake off those vicious sunday monring hangovers, it just really breaks my heart...you know what I'm talking about. Do not fear good people of the UWS, suck it up, throw your ipod in your pocket, and walk the extra 10 blocks to H&H..sure you can't sit down and eat there and the line is mildly annoying, but hell, its a hell of a bagel and at least you walk out of there with a bagel any Israel-ite would love to sink their choppers into...
