of course it reminds of wo hop
yes, well, several of the waiters and cooks (chefs) from Wo Hop 17 have moved up to work at 69...so there is no surprise that the food seems similar...and yes, it is Americanized Chinese Food, but who wants Jelly Fish and sauteed Duck feet and Pig intestines

Okay food at 3 am.
As a semi-annual visitor to Tribeca, I usually find myself in Chinatown rather often. This was the first time I tried 69, and I have to say that the quality of the takeout food at 3am was okay, but not stellar. Still, the fact that they are open at 3 am and doing pretty decent business rates them a solid 4. Prices are very reasonable for the items that I ordered. Some items on their menu are priced higher --- perhaps it is those items that rate the more glowing review of the food. Or, perhaps, one needs to go there during regular hours!

Great old fashion Chineses food
Not many places still prepares food the old fashion way. But this place is famous for ox tail stew and salt & pepper fried chicken wings. This is western food with a Chinese twist and it is fantastic. Give it a try and its good cheap eats.

Yummy, cheap, filling
Had the roast pork with black bean sauce. Very good. Hardly much fat or gristle in the pork. The sauce looked a little slimy though. I don't know if that was because they used too much corn starch or what, but it tasted good and didn't feel slimy. I suppose it could have had a stronger flavor. They give you a lot. You have to pay for each little thing like rice or egg roll though. For two people it came to $23. No credit cards. Reminds me of WoHop. Best thing is its open 24 hours! True NYC! There are dollar bills pasted all over the walls. Unbelievable you would find that in a Chinese place - I would have thought they would cash those in! Maybe they do every year? A few said 2008. Would go back.

Pork! Pork! Pork!
This is one of my fave standbys when I need a pork fix, Dishes like Pork with Lychee or Roast Pork Kew or their super ribs fit the bill. They also have great Chow Fun and Mei Fun(get it with the duck). Decor consists entirely of dollar bills taped to the wall and heavily decorated by the donors. If you're a semi-regular, they remember you. An excellent takeout choice as well.

dont expect much of anything here
you walk in and see the old waiters(all men) chilling in the back and no greeting. its more of a place where its real casual, u wakl in and sit down. the wallpaper is full of money signed /tagged by regulars or people travelling in general to this place. theres a lot of hype about htis place but i totally dont think its where you would want to go to enjoy a decent meal. its the type of place that stays open late and you can go there to chillout. or to catch up with old friends. its not good for the food. they dont even has roast pork and the waiter was nice enough to tell us not to order their roast pork dishes or any type of "cooked" meat since theyre not those kinds of chinese restaurants. he said if you order the dish, we just have to go and buy the roast pork form other chinese places and serve it to you. i dont know how they can be even anywhere close to rank 1. the place is old and run down, gives you a bummy feel when you eat there. its more of a place for old men to sip tea for hours doing nothing. not a lady's place. i believe they stay open pretty late and usually is one of the few chinese places that stay open til after 10pm in chinatown thats rare.

Don't take a date! Food good-decor (not)
I have been here 3 times with friends and the food is very good - and the portions are nicely sized. There are dollar bills taped to all the walls and there are never any tablecloths. Cheezy chairs too. The water is served in plastic "glasses" and tastes like lead. The do give you tea for free in a regular milk glass. they charge a little for a bowl of rice but it's no more than 50c or $1 and it's large. why no brown rice, I don't know. The bathroom is so small you can barely close the door - there is only 1 bathroom. It's kinda gross to eat here but the food is tasty. Some entrees have real fresh mushrooms but others have the canned ones that look real cheap. The shrimp were large in the jumbo shrimp dish maybe 8 of them. I go when I am hungry but really wouldn't want to take a date here because it's not really a nice looking place.
