Great place for a special evening

I had dinner at 5ninth last night and had an exceptional meal with stellar service, even during Restaurant Week, which sometimes means less than enthusiastic service. The dishes were all better than they sounded on the menu and our waiter was really funny and genial. The backyard is lovely for dinner. I am a native NYer and tend to avoid the "new and improved" meatpacking district, but 5ninth is not like the rest of those warehouse size production lines. The chef here really cares what comes out of the kitchen.

expected less and received a lot more

It was our first time in this restaurant and before going I looked at the reviews.I was a bit worried, since half of the people liked the place and the rest hated it. He had a good experience. The food was actually pretty good and our waiter was excellent. There is some attitud at the door as read in other reviews but overall the experience was worth it.

    very pleasent evening

I had a wonderful time here with my mom. The food was great, but you have to be in order to survive the discerning, picky, and sophisticated eaters of NYC. The waiter was very attentive and recommended wonderful drinks to go with our meal. Lovely atomsphere cozy and warm in a hip area of town. Great for people watching.

    Worst service in New York

The owner here has a serious attitude problem. I don't think he's realised he's working in the service industry. I'm from London and expected the service in New York to be excellent. This place was a joke. As soon as we walked in the attitude started. It seemed like I had just asked for a go on his wife, instead of just asking for a beer. The night got progressively worse as the lack of cocktail ingredients (no mint or milk - not to be drunk together by the way) and the abundance of attitude continued. I thought he might have just been having an off night but by the looks of this site its a regular occurance. Shame coz its a nice bar/restaurant, just run by a w@nker!

    Poor Experience

The service here is despicable. The management acts as if you should be grateful to be eating in their restaurant. I eat out a good deal and this place is just never worth it. I would like it to be since the atmosphere is nice but it does not compensate for the bad food and terrible service. To top it all off, the door man is disturbingly rude – worse than any velvet-rope club I’ve seen. Go elsewhere.

    Real Attiude problem

This is a great looking restaurant but that is as far as it goes. The staff were arrogant, though the food was reasonable. I have been there twice now, but never again as a result of my last experience when the guests to a friend's 30th birthday party were denied entry by an overly officious doorman. The restaurant also seems to engage in the annoying practice of pretending they are fully booked when in fact there are few people there. This happened on my first visit when a timely call to a friend secured my entry and for two hours I and my guests were the only occupants of the upstairs room. Why spend good money here when you never can tell how you will be treated.... there are too many good alternatives to ever bother with the hassle of eating at this restaurant, Avoid it like the plague!!!

    Atrocious service!

We ended up at this restaurant after taking an out of town friend to MPD for brunch. We were surprised to find that this place didn't have a long line--we quickly found out why. First we were seated in a beautiful garden setting. Secondly, the brunch food itself was good. However, the service was not! We waited so long (over one hour) for our food that we ordered a "bread basket"--which we found out is only 2 pieces of bread. The restaurant was not crowded or busy at all, so it was surprising that the service was slow and the waitstaff so unattentive. I only got one cup of coffee during the entire 1.5 - 2 hours we were there. But here's the best part--we were there waiting for our food for so long, that they actually thought we were done, and began clearing away our dishes! (30 min after I was promised another cup of coffee that never came!) My fiancee never got most of his order--they just completely forgot it. And when my out of town friend asked for ketchup, they actually began to argue in front of her over who had to get it! I was embarassed to have brought her there. The truth is that my fiancee and I are not restaurant snobs and are usually good tippers--but not this time. Despite the great setting and good food would never recommend it to anyone.
