    Went Downhill Fast

This place was great when it first opened. The burger were huge and yummy and the service spectacular. I have been back about a half-dozen times since my first visit and I have to say everything has gone down hill rather quickly. Our server was so disinterested in his job that he made us depressed, the burgers have shrunk in size considerably and come out not even close to the way you order the, I aske dfor mine to be medium well and got medium rare. By the time the server cam by to check I had given up and eatin most of it so it seemed pointless to send it back. My date ordered medium and well-done. Totally inconsistent. Will probably think twice before heading to this place again.

    Yummmmm

Delicious, what more can we say. The appetizer of pickles w/pastrami was delicious. Our burgers were juicy not to mention also delicious. Great place for a quick bite before a show or after. It gets busy.

    Fat, Juicy, And Worth It

I'm shocked at any kind of mixed review I've read here. I've been to 5 Napkin twice now, and both times had some of the best burgers I've had anywhere in the city, and I've lived in the city more than 15 years, and am critical of bad food. This is GREAT food! The burgers rock. The onion ring appetizer was yummy. The atmosphere is low key cool, bistro-y. You feel like you've been somewhere. I went with a group of 3 others. We shared two appetizers, each had great burgers, had a bottle of wine, and the bill was less than $50 each, including leaving a good tip. In the City, on a weekend, I think it's a great deal, and definitely worth it. Go!

    Great Burger, Great Service

My wife and I stopped in after the theatre last Saturday night. The place was packed at 11 PM and the hostess said we would have to wait until a table was made ready but we were seated almost immediately after she got those words out of her mouth. The service was fast and professional. The water and menus were placed right as we sat down and our waiter took our our orders within 5 minutes. My wife ordered the 5 napkin burger and it arrived medium well as ordered and I had the bacon cheeseburger medium rare and again it was as ordered. Skinny fries were plentiful, hot and not too salty. Our waiter addressed us respectfully - Sir & Ma'am - (we had a waitress a couple of weeks ago addressing us as "guys" & wife and I are in our late 50s)and he checked a few minutes after the food was served to see if our food was OK. Another big plus with our waiter is that that when he picked up our payment took it and brought our change! What's the big deal you ask? It's is a sore point with me when a server comes to collect payment and asks me if I "will be needing change." Yes I will be needing change. I can't stand this anymore. I think it's totally unprofessional for a server to ask. Just collect my money and bring back my change. I read a couple of reviews that complained about the $14.95 price for the burgers with fries. You've got to be kidding me! You're getting a true 10 oz. burger (it sure looks like it, pretty big) and fries, and table service while sitting on a comfortable soft seat, in the middle of the Manhattan Theatre District. The overhead, food supply and personel to run a place like this is very high. I think their price is reasonable. I see that at least one reviewer complained about the noise level. I don't know what they expect. Just looking in the window of this restaurant in the theatre district you could see that it's not a "cozy table in the corner". They should have turned around and walked out the door because as soon as you walk inside you know its noisy. So all in all we liked 5 Napkin for the professional service and food quality and value. We will return.

Medium Does Not Equal Raw or Well Done

I had a poor experience at Five Napkin Burger. I went around lunchtime, and the place was packed, which I assumed meant that they knew what they were doing when it came to burgers. I was terribly wrong. I ordered the Inside Out Burger, and I asked for it to be cooked medium. After I took a couple of bites from the burger, I realized the middle was raw. As in cold, raw, and bloody. I showed this to the server, and she took it back to the kitchen. Out came a new burger which was just as raw and bloody, only this time, it was hotter on the outside. The server took it back again. The manager came out with another burger, apologized, and said it would be taken off the bill. I split this burger with my fork and found it to be completely well done. At this point the burger was crumbling apart and burned on the edges. I was reminded of the movie Waiting, and I did not eat more than a few bites for fear of what could have been done to the burger in the kitchen. I do not recommend this restaurant, and I will never go back. This place really needs to get it together and learn how to cook a burger!

A good burger, but at a price

I've been to 5 Napkin Burger three times and have had great results every time. The first time I went I had the Bacon Cheddar burger and the second time I had the original 5 napkin burger. While the specialty burger was great, it didn't have the kick of the Bacon Cheddar, but what does. I ordered take out one time, and it was fine as well. All three times the burgers were cooked perfectly like I ordered them. I went with two friends last week and we ordered the Onion Rings and Wings for appetizers. Both were good, but not really worth the $9 each or whatever they were. The atmosphere is a little odd because it is trying to be a high end looking burger place. If you go at night, you can expect to wait a little while. In a nutshell, the burgers are great, even at $15, but skip the appetizers.

    I don't get it

Went at lunch, very noisy and it was crowded. Good wait staff, and the food was OK... But not worth the price or the Noise level. As stated, I just don;t get it.
