5 Napkin Burger
Posted by mebcav on 05/09/2012
I've been to 5-Napkin out in Astoria and enjoyed it. Went to the one on UWS and left to go eat somewhere else. My boyfriend and I went in around 9 pm on a Tuesday night, were seated quickly and given water, and then - bupkus. No server came over, and it was not even that crowded. No one even came over to say, 'be right with you' or anything. We just sat there waiting. And considering the name of the restaurant is 5 napkin burger, there was pretty much just one choice for a 'burger' on the menu. no small version, no different style toppings.... I didn't recall that from my Astoria experience. We were so disappointed, and after waiting and waiting for someone to come over, we finally just gave up and walked out and went somewhere else. Don't think we'll try 5-napkin again.

I was up on the upper westside today and I decided to there for lunch. I was seated and waited 10 minutes before any person took my order. I waited another 20 minutes before I got my order .The hamburger was very greasy and the french fires were so salt that I would not eat them. The manager who was in charged there at lunchtime, when I was there was to busy talking all the time to the waitress. He did it the entire time I was there. The food is poor and the service is so-so.

I've eaten here many times exclusively for lunch, so if it's that bad why come back? Truth is, it is better than many other neighborhood spots, which says more about the west 80's than the restaurant. The burgers are good. The salads are good. Lately (I mean that last several times I've been there), the string french fries have been limp and soggy with oil. I had to send back a "medium" tuna because it was completely raw. But it is pleasant enough, the food is good enough, and most important it is convenient enough to have me coming back.

The burger was mediocre, definately not worth the money. Kid friendly? not really ...Eventhough the service was very cordial and tried to accomodate me and kids, they do not have a kids menu and really no room for strollers.

Ate here a couple of times. Burgers are good but certainly not worth the price. If you want a real good burger at a more reasonable price, go somewhere else.

The atmosphere and service here is excellent. Fast everything, fast food, fast check, always had full glasses of water... The food on the other hand is a bit overpriced and bland. I had the chicken tenders and my brother had a burger. The burger was decent, a bit on the soggy side. The chicken tenders I did not like at all though.. They weren't crispy, didn't have much taste except pepper, and I didn't like their honey mustard - and they didn't have ranch :( The coleslaw was delicious though. For dessert we had the brownie sundae -> skip it. Maybe if they didn't use old chunks of dried out brownie it'd be better, and if they limited the amount of nuts, and finally, if they didn't put it in a tall skinny glass --> maybe then it'd be worth the $7. All in all, glad I tried this place once, but won't be coming back.

The soups are very good, the salads are good, the lamb and tuna excellent. We had slow service both times we ate lunch there. Once the salad for one person came 10 minutes before the other three salads. Noisy and hard to talk.
