I ate several times at this location when they first opened, always for lunch, and enjoyed the food and the atmosphere tremendously. Last night my husband and I went for dinner, It was miserable. The service was non-existent, we had to beg for water and eventually the bill. Everyone around us seemed to be having the same service issues, long wait times, incorrect food, vanished servers. I ordered the lamb burger that I have had before and when it finally came (40 minutes later) it was dry with no condiments at all other then a quarter sized dollop of something that was dry and crusty. Not at all what the menu had described. We could never flag down a server to bring any mayo or mustard. The table behind us where an extra chair had been added to our detriment got the wrong order and was challenged by the waitress when the patron dared to complain about it. A man with two children in tow finally called the manager over to point out that his order had been lost. I see that the review below is from 2013, I just want to point out that things now are worse than ever. Never again!

I used to love 5 Napkin. There food was fresh and always enjoyable. The last 2 times I dined here I left disappointed. The burger was just not as juicy and seemed a tad smaller than usual. The tuna salad was pathetic. The tuna was overdone. The lettuce was old, yellowed and I had the end pieces. The tomatoes were mealy and seemed as if they were cut a day before and stored. The cucumbers were not fresh either and the potatoes in the salad were raw. A friend asked for grilled onions in her salad and the waiter simply said no. The waiter never brought water, we had to ask numerous times and it took 10 minutes or so to finally get the bill. The hostess also had rules about sitting outside and would not allow a third person to join us stating it was a fire hazard yet other people had 3rd people... I might go back one more time but it hasn't lived up to its original standards in 2013.

I have eaten at this 5 Napkin Burger one other time, and it was at lunchtime. That experience was lovely. Our family has tried to eat here a few times in the evening but the line is always too long and the place jammed. This time I made a reservation on Open Table. When we arrived again the place was jammed and a large crowd encircled the hostess who looked frightened. One woman was obviously angry and a male host came and took over. We were seated immediately (reservation!) It was so jammed and busy our waiter, although very pleasant, spilled water on my husband. Our food came quickly, and was good, but the overall mood made it hard to appreciate it. I went to the bathroom and was really disgusted. No toilet paper or towels. Paper on the floor. The sink drain wasn't working. Ultimately, I wouldn't go back to this place. It left me feeling really frazzled.

I force myself to deal with the incredibly loudness of this restaurant (sitting outside is one solution) because I absolutely LOVE the veggie burgers. They are the best in NYC and paired with sweet potato fries, a yummy meal. Have always found the servers attentive and pleasant. Wish they would deliver.

I've been to 5-Napkin out in Astoria and enjoyed it. Went to the one on UWS and left to go eat somewhere else. My boyfriend and I went in around 9 pm on a Tuesday night, were seated quickly and given water, and then - bupkus. No server came over, and it was not even that crowded. No one even came over to say, 'be right with you' or anything. We just sat there waiting. And considering the name of the restaurant is 5 napkin burger, there was pretty much just one choice for a 'burger' on the menu. no small version, no different style toppings.... I didn't recall that from my Astoria experience. We were so disappointed, and after waiting and waiting for someone to come over, we finally just gave up and walked out and went somewhere else. Don't think we'll try 5-napkin again.

I was up on the upper westside today and I decided to there for lunch. I was seated and waited 10 minutes before any person took my order. I waited another 20 minutes before I got my order .The hamburger was very greasy and the french fires were so salt that I would not eat them. The manager who was in charged there at lunchtime, when I was there was to busy talking all the time to the waitress. He did it the entire time I was there. The food is poor and the service is so-so.
