They serve the BEST food. We are never disappointed and everytime we go into the city we want to try something new, but when we think about how good the food is we go right to 44 Southwest. If you get the wrong waitress/waiter that could be a problem, but we always seem to get the same waitress when we go. We brought our Neice from Malta there and now everytime someone comes to visit from Malta she brings them there. My son brings all his out-of-town business associates there as well and Everyone raves about the food and the price. We were 8 the other night and everyone just LOVED there entree, not to mention the fried calamari, the eggplant rollatini, the mussels, and the fried ravioli. Not a bad word to say about the food. I think Rachel Rae says it best......YUMMO! We've been to many different restaurants and 44 Southwest is our favorite.

We love this as one of our "regular" faves - they make a delicious Arabbiatta sauce and a Calamari Fra Diavolo, the waitress has begun to recognise us and we feel like we are in an extension of a home rather than a restaurant. A lovely feel-good night out on the neighborhood! Oh yeah, and loved the Tiramisu - a real serving of rum there!

Best Gem in the Theater District. It was a bit of a walk (two long blocks) but the food was excellent, the scene was excellent (a few Law & Order personalities dining at the same time!!!), and service as good as you could expect in a packed midtown restaurant in the heart of the theater district. I had a hard time hearing who I think was the owner but she seem endearing in ensuring that we got seated and our veno right away. The staff seemed rushed to service everyone and respond to her beck and call but I found that very "un-american service industry like" ...so when in Italy or and Italian family owned restaurant expect either the mob or a crazy lady!!! The design and decor of the place (lots of candels) defininately made us feel welcome and outside the madness of New York City for the entire dining experience. We would eat there every night if we could!!!

My husband and I have tried most of the italian restaurants in this area and for some reason we always end up going back to 44 SW as our reliable stand-by. The food is usually pretty good, or at least one of the better in the area. Service is always slow and you usually need to track down your waiter at the end of the evening to get the check. Its always busy on weeknights with the theater crowd so come early or try after 8pm for a more lesiurely meal.

Took my 3 and 7 year old out for birthday pre theater dinner. The food, service and atmosphere was great. Would recommend to families and couples. The appetizers were terrific. Got us out on time to see show! Took the time to wish daughter a huge birthday and she loved the personalized attention. Definately would go back

Went for the first time last night. The reviews were so good, we decided to try it since we were in the neighborhood. The atmosphere was very nice and I enjoyed the music that was playing. The seating was comfotrable. But, the food was totally average. Nothing special. And, the service is poor. The waitress forgot to give me my wine. She then served two main courses and brought out the 3rd one five minutes later. I wouldn't go back. Did I say the food was just average?

With all the choices for restaurants in NYC, we always want to try someplace new, but when we want a sure thing, we always go to 44SW. The food is always excellent, the prices are always reasonable, and the atmosphere is always pleasant. It's cozy in the winter and in the warmer weather, they open the wall of doors and you can feel the energy of the city while enjoying the breeze with your glass of wine. I highly recommend!
