    not recommended

was excited to experience one of my neighborhood spots that has been on my list for a while.walked in with a friend on a thursday evening to a less than bustling spot (already a bad sign) & was approached by a server who boasted that she was a daughter of the family.she talked of the family owned and operated business that focussed greatly on quality.she offered a favorite dish of her's which i decided on.40 minutes later the food arrived cold next.my pasta with mussels was bland and over-cooked & the "house-made bread stale."truly hate to say this but easily the worst experience i have had in hells kitchen yet.would never go back.

    poor take out

I ordered delivery from here about 1.5 hours ago and fifteen minutes ago it arrived cold, soggy, flavorless and completely disappointing. Not recommended: mini ravioli and chicken 44. Make it at home for 1/3 the price.

    My Absolute Favorite in NYC

Love the Chicken & Pasta dishes, Brunch is delicious too. Personaly would not order the seafood choices, my husband tried the calamari fra diavlo and was dissapointed.

    Fabulous!

Growing up in NYC I'm a big restaurant goer, always up for trying new places. I don't usually wander to the theatre district because its usually too crowded, too touristy, and expensive. I was soo glad I was walking by and stopped in last Sunday. Very warm, cozy atmosphere, loved the margherita pie, entre was delicious, and not too pricey at all. The wait staff was attentive and gracious, we first sat at the bar and the bartender was charming and debonnaire!! I definitely will reccomend this to and even join my friends for my next visit!!

    Disappointing...

I have been to 44 SW many times, usually ordering the same entree, because I really enjoyed it. However, when I decided to be adventurous and order something different, it was totally disappointing. The appetizer, fried calamari was overcooked...nothing worse! The chicken parm had a frozen taste, like that of freezer burn. It was served cut up and placed on top of a very modest portion of pasta. My friend had a very unimpressive chicken francese, with boring mashed potatoes! I used to recommend the place. Now I probably will not return!

You just have to know what not to order

First let’s start with the good. SW44 has invested well in their decor. Warm, rich colors, attention to fabrics and lighting create a simple, inviting ambiance for a neighborhood bistro. I have read several of the reviews about the poor service ours, however was excellent. The restaurant was busy but not crazy and I watched our server graciously move about her station, smiling and chatting with her guests. The tables are close together so you could clearly see everyone well taken care of. We ordered three entrees. First, a spaghetti and meatballs entree which was excellent. Then we ordered two specials, veal parm and a strip steak with basil butter. Both came with mash potatoes and vegetables. The steak was cooked correctly and flavorful. $24.00, however for a 6oz. strip steak was too expensive for what it was. Especially in a neighborhood with so many other choices. The veal parm however was very disappointing. The veal tasted like a frozen veal patty. This special was also $24.00 and we received two pieces of veal about the size of a woman’s palm. Not veal scallopini. We had Tartuffo for dessert which came as expected and was fresh. Often restaurant frozen desserts have freezer burn, this was not the case. One other thing I did not care for, I don’t mind spending $24.00 on a good entrée. When you write up your specials board and put it outside, show me the prices of your nightly specials. If I see something I want I will come in no matter how much it is. I always think if the special prices aren’t posted, shown or recited, the restaurant knows they are charging more than they should and they know people aren’t going to say anything when the bill comes. If I go back I would skip anything they have on specials menu. They do have a very nice martini bar in the back. Maybe next time I will do drinks and an appetizer at SW44 and choose another nearby restaurant for dinner.
