Good food but a little disorganized

I called in lunch for takeout from 35 - tom yum and tofu pad thai. Both were really good (and I liked that they asked me how spicy I wanted them), but the tom yum had chicken in it, which I didn't recall seeing on the menu, and the pad thai had a stray piece of beef in it. When I arrived to pick it up, they seemed a little confused and couldn't find my order at first. But they were very friendly and contrary to some of the other reviews, I thought the lunch special gave more than enough food. And I am one hungry momma.

    Great Thai Food

I've been going here regularly since I found this restaurant. Frankly, it's the best Thai in the neighborhood. It's a hidden gem and not too many people know about it yet. The atmosphere is casual and relaxed and the restaurant is pretty (open brick/slate walls). They have an extremely good Thai chef at the restaurant. I recommend the curries, sea food stir fry, pineapple fried rice, duck, many of the appetizers (dumplings, mango salad, spring rolls etc.) and fried banana dessert. In response to the person who complained about smaller lunch portions - the lunches are smaller than the dinners but they are really inexpensive ( you get an appetizer and main course for under $10 for lunch and it's all freshly cooked so it's a good deal). This is not the place you would go to get more than enough food for the buck. But what you do get is fresh and nicely prepared food and that's very tasty. The restaurant also serves a few western food and the sandwiches and ribs are very good too. Some of the sandwiches come with sweet potato fries, which are good.

    Bad Experience

Unfortunately, I had a bad experience. Ordered some food for lunch and it took over an hour to show up. Portions were really small (entree was half the size of the container). When I called manager portions were small b/c it was the lunch special. Think I'll stick to the other Thai places in Chinatown. Taste was just ok.

I have been going to this place since it first opened and the food has always been top quality. They recently added Thai food to their menu and I have to say that it's probably the best I have had here in the city...since the addition I've been back about 10 times in the past month. I highly recommend the Tom Yum (Lemon Grass Soup) and the Pad Prik-khing (Dry Curry). They've also got great Pad Thai and Pad See Euw...although you'd expect that from a good Thai place. Also, if you're not in the mood for their Thai don't be afraid to order from their American section, it's all top notch. The owners and waitstaff are extremely friendly, and the food presentation rivals that of some of the top most expensive restaurants.

No, it really is a secret

When we arrived at 9:30pm, it was definately lighter than the website portrays, as I was hoping to barely see anyone else but my girlfriend. The food was really good. Only 3 other tables were filled. The waitress and kitchen staff were REALLY friendly. I am definately going back. Beware that Lispenard street is pretty shady looking, which was my only drawback. Even if it gets crowded, it probably would not be as loud as other thai places. cool.

    Great Ambiance!

Nowadays it's hard to find a quiet, cute and romantic ambiance especially on the weekend, but I have found it! 35 is a great place for catching up with your friends without having to scream at the top of your lungs or be afraid of having your neighbors hear. The service is EXCELLENT and the food is great! The price is reasonable as well. I recommend this place for get togethers or just a nice and cute place to have a drink and grab a bite.

    A Hidden Treasure

Like others, I made dinner reservations for my fiance's 35th Birthday. I was a little skeptical at first for when I asked around no one heard of this restaurant called 35. I decided to go with my first instinct, and keep our reservation. What a mistake it would have been to cancel. From the food, to the service, to the atmosphere..everything was fantastic! The ambience was romantic and quiet, I loved touch of the candles on the tables with floating flowers in water. The food was superb, the vegetable eggrolls and organic smoked chicken was absolutely delicious!! And for the service, we felt like we were the guests in a close friends home. When we asked for directions to a theater, we were given a computer printout of directions to the theater. I couldn't imagine getting that type of service anywhere else. I have came to realize that the reason 35 wasn't as popular as others, is because everyone is keeping it as their own hidden treasure. I hope others take the time to visit this restaurant and see for themselves what a uniquely delicious and pleasant restaurant this is. Bravo to 35!! And thank you for making my fiance's birthday the best birthday ever!!
