Hidden Jewel on the Upper East side

We just stumbled onto this place since the nearby Courtyard Marriott doesn't have a restaurant or meal service. It was a Saturday night and getting late so we had our fingers crossed and didn't expect much in the way of quality food or service. The waiter was very nice and explained the daily specials and other items on the menu. He was cheery and provided us with service we don't get many times in 5 star restaurants. We ordered three meals: one of the daily specials, chicken teriyaki and rice; a hamburger and a Philly cheesesteak and chicken noodle soup. What an extremely nice surprise we received!!! Our wait was minimal and all the food was great. The portions were so large that we couldn't completely eat our meals. The other service staff was equally as friendly. They let us sit and relax and continue to eat long after they had closed for the evening. This place is a hidden jewel on the upper east-side of NY and will definitely go on our places to eat in NY.

Ugly pink interior, lousy service, bland tasting food, and over overpriced new menu. There are several other better diners worth going to in the area. Not worth the trip!

    Solid Diner Option

As the title of the review suggests, this is a solid option if you're looking for some quick, decent diner-type food in the UES. I usually get an omelet, and I'm always satisfied with my choice. During my last visit, my friends got pancakes and a salad with grilled chicken, and both were happy with those as well. I think the quality of food probably goes down if one gets a little more adventurous, but I should hope you're going to any diner to get a fine steak. If you stick to breakfast foods and sandwiches, the food is very tasty, and you'll be fine. Plus, since it's a diner, the price is always right (especially considering it's Second Ave. location). As for the service, there are two waitresses that have been there forever, so they both know what they're doing. One can be a little gruff, but she knows what she's doing, and is generally willing to accommodate changes/adjustments to orders. Plus, she sneakily has a tremendous amount of patience as I've seen her deal with rude and clueless customers very well on many occasions. All in all a solid option, if you want a good meal for less than $15.

    Good food, service...eccentric...

This is the local diner of my friends in NYC, so I tend to come here a lot when visiting from London. The menu's extensive, and generally very good value - converting back from dollars to pounds, it's even more affordable! The quality of the food is good - consistent and satisfying. Service is a bit variable, though; usually efficient, but offhanded and with an undertone of anger that's a bit preturbing. You get used to it - and it is convenient and cheap - but I can see how it would be off-putting to a first-time visitior. I just shrug and say "whatever they're angry about, I didn't do it", and get on with it.

I have been going there for the last 20 Years

Great food and good size portions. I used to go for the great breakfast specials years ago. They still have great food at a very fair price. I think one of the best deals in the city. I now go more often for the lunch or dinner meals . I still find the portions great and they have a few good items that are not on the menu. Its nice to have a good neighborhood restaurant . You get to know the regular customers there.

Good cheap food, my trusty local.

3 Decker is the best value in the neighborhood. Their wait staff are all friendly, and deliveries are prompt and exactly as ordered. Some of their food is not the greatest, not fancy, but it is always fresh. For example, their chicken salad is a very fine mince that is bulked with a lot of celery. 3 Decker's omelettes absolutely rock, and they will cook your food to your exact spec. The only drawback is that I am a night owl, and they close somewhat early. For a late night alternative, consider Viand on 86th. Avoid Midnight Express like the plague, they sling slop for delivery. 3 Decker is my local fave.

    Extremely sub-par!

Not worth the high reviews given by others. Food was extremely sub-par. When I asked for a chocolate milk shake, I was asked if I wanted it "hot"!! In the end I got something that tasted like sugary cocoa water.. disgusting! I also ordered eggs "sunny-side up", only to be served "over-easy" eggs. The wait staff seemed pretty clueless and disorganized. There are several other diners in NY that are far superior-- don't waste your time and money here!
