2nd Avenue Deli

I've eaten at this place since 1968, and now that it 's moved I've only gone once or twice to eat in. But I still pick up takeout when I'm in the area. The hot dogs have always been just marginal (Katz's way better), but the corned beef sandwich is still good (nicely fatty, the way I like it) and the potato salad and chicken soup are still fantastic. But it's not the same eating in. Loooong delays in service, stuff arriving at different times for different eaters...I've never really noticed any rudeness. Chattiness, overfamiliarity, sure. But that's part of the deal

Very disappointing experince. The waiter was courteous enough but the food was a definite let down. We sampled the classics but it tasted like stale cafeteria fare. Prices are outrageous.

Admittedly, It's no where near as good as it was on Second Ave, but, now it is now sliding fast. Live in the hood, eat here once or twice a month, always has been decent to excellent, pastrami quality can fluctuate quite a bit - last order was completely off the hook. Flavorless pastrami - completely. Sandwich was thrown together and delivery took 1.5 hrs. Will give it another shot - hope it was an aberration as this is truly a neighborhood asset.

If you don't like the food here. Yes, it is a bit on the expensive side because it is kosher, but to say the food is bad, please. I took a friend whose parents owned a kosher deli in Brooklyn and she was very impressed. The pastrami is fantastic, and I thought the matzo ball soup was wonderful. She had the mushroom barley soup and enjoyed it as well. The place is small, the seating is tight, but the service was good, I did not encounter any issues. So, the bottom line is, different strokes for different folks, I thought it was great.

I am so tired of people telling me that I have misjudged this restaurant. I have now tried 4 different times, eat in and take out. The staff at the take out are really nice but the food is not good.

Prices here are ridiculously high, I felt like I'd been mugged! Much too expensive for what it is. How do they justify a five dollar knish and fourteen dollars for the larger soup, they can't. It's a rip off. I spend forty dollars for lunch! Food is good, but not quite as good as former location, especially the matzo ball soup, it's not the same. There are other great delis with better prices. I can't justify going back at these prices!

Great service, can't beat the old feeling that you get when eating here! The chocolate soda at the end is wonderful and the girl who answers the phones for deliveries is a doll!
