    Unpleasant service, reasonable price

Reading the reviews here, I eagerly anticipated a dinner at 26 seats. I was disappointed. The waitress was unpleasant and unhelpful, the only wine available by-the-glass was subpar, and the food was good enough, but not great to merit another meal there. I took a francophile friend, who was also very disappointed.

    A lovely birthday treat

My man brought me here for my birthday recently. He's on a rather tight budget but wanted something special anyway, and we found it here. The appetiser special of the day, which we shared, was asparagus with mozerella (I think it was grilled) and was divine. We opted for the Bass and the Trout as entrees. The latter was most definitely the juiciest trout I've ever put on my tongue, which is saying a lot for an Irish girl brought up by the sea. The bass was pretty good, but the sweet corn cake on the side was the star of the dish, and I wished there had been more of it. Great service, and as a birthday treat we were given a glass of port each on the house. Best time to go - early Sunday evening, when they're not busy.

    Disappointing experience

The food arrived moments after ordering - a bad sign. We hadn't even taken a sip of our wine. The chicken was cold, the duck was incredibly chewy. I switched to pate which was just very salty and not very tasty. Altogether disappointing.

    Great food and great value

I have been going to 26 seats for a few years- i would go more often if i lived closer. The food is amazing and the prices are very reasonable. It is hard to get good inexpensive French food in the city, but this is the perfect place to find it! I would eat here every day if i could...also the owners are the nicest people you will ever meet. Have the soups, escargot, or muscles and the steak, duck, or fish- then finish it off with any dessert because everything there is AMAZING!

    A Jewel in the Rough

Truely French and Truely Delightful. I could not have dreamt about such a perfect dining experience. The pleasant staff, the cozy and charming atmosphere and the exquisite food, makes for a perfect 10 on my rating scale. I lived in Pairs for 5 years and recently came back from 2 weeks traveling on the French Mediterranean, and I can honestly say that I did not have one meal in which compared to 26 seats. Simply wonderful.

A great french gem in LES

WE walked in and sat directly under the fan. We asked to be moved and got attitude. We got a two top in the front and ...... After we ordered a great bottle of wine wine and 2 orders of escargot the server knew we meant business. The duck confit was good. The seared brook trout with saffron rice was on target after the perfectly garlicy escargot for an appetizer. The server took our wine away to keep it cold and we need more to wash the escargot down. But eventually she showed up. We did not have dessert although I wanted to..... next time. And I think sunday nites just may be best. What a great find.

The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly

I was looking forward to dining at 26 Seats and was duly disappointed. The quality of the food was spotty. Good: The appetizers and desserts were sublime. The pate was homey, generous and filling, the caramelized onion tart was enjoyed by one companion, the bread was hot and crusty and soft, melting the butter easily, and the cr?me brule creamy and sweet. Bad: The entrees were lacking. I had the striped bass and it tasted like they used frozen fillet and smothered it with tomato sauce and lemon. The spinach was simple and I wished the portion of the sweet corncake had been larger because it was the star of the plate, being so sweet and light, melting in my mouth. My other dining companions had the duck entree, one of the specials of the night. Unfortunately, they found it average and two left half their plates untouched. (Unless the other entrees are the ones that are good, and we were just unfortunate in our choices that night, stick with the appetizers and desserts.) Ugly: We waited quite awhile until the waitress gave us the check, where upon she hurriedly told us there were other diners waiting and rushed us out, turning a borderline dining experience into a disappointed one.
