Haven't been for over a year. Went as it was Ally's Mom's birthday and theatre was nearby. 21 was always a place that you would get a good not a great meal, with very good service and a room that made you feel like you were a power broker in old time NYC. You would also leave a very pretty penny for your experience. There a new chef, and the food was truly sublime. Chilled pea sup with mint, Caesar Salad, Branzino on White Asparagus. Service by "Rob" - superb. While the iconic "Rev" has passed on, his duties were capably taken over by Gregory. Front staff as professional as ever. If you crossed this off your list, put it back on. So I had dinner at the bar. It started out fine until the first bartender went on break. I finished a $28.00 crabmeat appetizer. I sat there directly in front of the new bartender and he makes no effort to clear my dish. FYI the bar was empty at this point. Finally after about fifteen minutes I pick the dish up and move it elsewhere to give the hint to get to work. He starts scooping ice with a glass from one side to the other making a racket. Then my main course arrives and he start cleaning with a dirty rag right by my entree. I was not impressed. Water, 1 glass of wine, an appetizer and an entree came to $105.00. This service was not indicative of this caliber of a restaurant. He should really consider working in a diner. I go out for dinner almost every night and rarely is service this poor. I am mad at myself for not complaining while I was there but I can assure you I will not return.

Haven't been there since husband was on Wall street, we lived in the city, and it was one of our regular stops - personally and for business. Still felt like home. One doesn't expect Michelin 3-star performance from the kitchen - it would not fit with the history or the atmosphere- but the food is at - least 1-, sometimes 2-star: tasty, well-prepared, and attractively served. The waitstaff is attentive and wonderful...

I'm also one of those who are astonished by some of the negative reviews about the 21 Club. On our most recent visit in early December the food was delicious and the service the usual 5 star. They might only be snobby if you show up slobby. One of midtown's premier eating establishments.

I am appalled by several of the reviews on this site, but, if you read carefully and between the lines -- most of the negative reviews come from out-of-town visitors who don't have a clue about 21. They've only seen it in "Sex and the City" or in a movie, and, are completely clueless about the history or even dress code for 21 Club. I highly suggest looking carefully at 21 Club's site before making a reservation. As a New Yorker, I have been to 21 Club many times throughout my life, and, had the pleasure of dinning there again last night. Our food was delicious and the service was impeccable. Is 21 Club the best in the city? No, of course not, but, if you know how to act, dress, and, order - you will not be disappointed.

Very disappointed. Couldn't get reservations but went for drinks. Bartender was rude made us feel very unwelcome. Quickly put a reserved sign on bar table so we couldn't sit. We couldn't wait to finish our drinks and leave.

We have been there several times and the food and service have been over-the-top excellent each time. A bit surprised at the negative reviews on this page.
