    Consistent

The food here is not what I would call gourmet, rather more like Spanish comfort food. I have read other reviews and find this restaurant to be consistent in its delivery of good service, fair pricing, and savory seafood and steak dishes. It's good for all ages. A coat check in the front and a classic bar add a bit of a throw back to days when a touch of class was expected. This is a classic.

    Not recommended

My wife brought me to El Quijote for tapas for my 59th birthday -- what a disappointment. First, we ordered some garlic soup which never came [?], the langostines, advertised as "Mediterranean" were in fact ordinary shrimps -- large and overcooked. clams in green sauce was delivered in white sauce, big and chewy. Quail was overcooked and dry, too. Biggest sin of the evening was the "canned" white asparagus tapa -- tasted like, well, canned asparagus smothered in a heavy garlic sauce I suppose to add flavor to stalks of bland. All in all, when you realize you can cook way better Spanish food at home its time to scratch this restaurant off the list. If you have a poor pallet or don't care about what you eat this place is for you.

    Best/authentic Spanish restaurant

We use to have another restaurant as our go to restaurant for authentic food from Spain & Spanish seafood - prior to us discovering this gem! We have been going to this restaurant and cocktail lounge for over a month straight of weekends!! There are several factors that make this restaurant great (and owners and other restaurants can take notes and follow this plan IF they want the same). First off food being great is an obvious given. Each time we have been there we have gotten a different dish. The menu itself is extensive; you could probably go here a year straight and still not have gone through the entire thing. The portions are family style, you can order most items (such as paella, steaks,etc...) and split them between a minimum of two people. If you want, you can go there and sit at the cocktail bar and eat or just order appetizers at the bar or sit at a table and do "tapas style". The pricing is very reasonable. The second factor that makes this restaurant excellent (other owners, please listen up and take notes...) is the manager. That is a huge key point; hiring and having a manager that cares as if they owned the restaurant personally themselves. Along with that is the third factor and that is the managers "people skills" to hire and train the correct staff (waiter, hostess, chef's, busboys, etc...) to do the job. The entire staff operates as one solid unit - family!

    Great food

Very happy with the service and food. Huge menu which makes it hard to decide. We had a group of five with us and everyone was very pleased with what they gotten. I personally had the surf and turf. The fillet was great. I do recommend this place!

    one of NY's best

Way, way better than some of the overhyped restaurants like Il Mulino where you get mediocre food thrown at you by rude waiters and then more or less pushed out the door. At El Quijote, you have to push your way IN, because the value and high quality of the food are unsurpassed. I advise the paella, but my wife always gets the two enormous filet mignons and takes one home to eat the next day. Courteous, attentive service. At least a 30 on Zagat (which unfortunately loves the snob appeal of restaurants where you have to be a celeb like Tim and Nina to be treated well.)
