I enjoyed the chicken and waffles. It was quite tasty. The drinks was just ok, but I did enjoy the ginger beer even though it's not an alcoholic beverage...will definitely return back.

I'm dumbfounded by the smattering of raves for this restaurant. After seeing a segment about it on the Food network -- in which they highlighted the famous fried chicken and waffles. I decided to try it. Well, the chicken was tasteless (not even a hint of seasoning, which is critical to a good fried chicken recipe) and dry. The accompanying cheese waffles were nothing, repeat NOTHING, out of the ordinary (where was the cheese, anyway, or were they subtly going for "hint" of cheese). The hangar steak that my wife ordered wasn't even a piece of steak; it consisted of steak slices, and it was way overpriced for what it was. I'll give them this much: the praline ice cream sundae was super yummy... but that wasn't enough to recommend this place. Skip it.

My husband and I walked into this restaurant with our two children on a very rainy Wednesday night at 5:30. We went to celebrate our wedding anniversary. When we walked through the door the hostess just stood there with a look of contempt on her face as she eyeballed all of us coming in from the rain. After a long awkward pause I had to ask her for a table for four. As she scowled and grabbed her menus, I was wondering who would ever hire this women to greet and sit people at their restaurant, she was downright scary, think Cruella De Ville. I also had a stroller which she looked at as if she had never seen one before in her life. I easily closed it up and put it to the side as she watched with a giant puss on. I did do my research on this restaurant and looked at the childrens menu that they display on their website so I figured Childrens menu=children are welcome. There were other children in the restaurant and all were extremely well behaved. My kids are also little foodies and have been to many a 4 and 5 star restaurant. I liked the food, I ordered the duck meatloaf and my husband ordered the fried chicken, my children after serious deliberations and suggestions from the waitress (who seemed put out by their questions) ordered from the childrens menu. The food was quite delicious and all of us tasted everything on the table and were very pleased wih our selections. I am not a drinker but since it was our wedding anniversary I decided to splurge and go for a fancy cocktail. I had two of them and I am pretty sure they didn't contain any alcohol at all and at 11 bucks a pop that is just wrong. There is one bathroom. We actually had words with an impatient women who was banging on the door after my daughter and I were in there for 1 minute. The atmosphere was very awkward and uncomfortable. I am very soured on the experience. The food was good, the drinks were not and super expensive. The service sucked. I would not return to this restaurant with or without my children. I really wanted to love it, my son goes to school across the street and I thought this might be a great place to hit when I don't feel like cooking.

After scanning favorable comments found here and elsewhere, the family decided to give it a go. Starters consisted of lettuce salad served with a sour tasting creamy dressing... different, but not necessarily suited to most pallets. Small perfectly rounded hush puppies, seemed to be reheated rather than freshly fried... crunchy yet somewhat tasteless. Complimentary popovers, honey drizzled, eggy but overcooked (burnt). We were four adults ... three had come to feast on the house specialty fried chicken and waffles. Most reviews for this dish were positively glowing. Our fourth member is a vegetarian. After viewing the special menu, he opted for the linguini veggie melange. The Crust on the chicken had a nice tasty crunch. The waffles might well have been Eggos, who knows... the slaw was tasty enough. I started with the the wing. One bite through the crunchy goodness revealed the meat near the bone to be pink and tinged with blood. The waitstaff person was quick to explain that this was common and not to be of any concern. She offered to replace the wing if I wished. Not wanting to seem petty I simply moved on to the next piece. This piece was larger and the inside was decidedly very rare. Naturally, due to health concerns i decided to send it back. No problem... the waitstaff person ask if I'd prefer something else. I said hamburger, she said how? I said medium. I usually order medium rare but feared if I did this here it would walk to my table from the kitchen on its own. My scheme worked the burger arrived medium rare. The other two guests at my table picked at the crust of their chicken leaving over rare bits. The vegetarian who ordered the linguini left most of his potion uneaten. The pasta was overcooked and the " veggie melange" didn't have much going for it flavor wise. Deserts were good. possibly suppled by outside vendors. All in all not my best dining experience... Oh did I mention, I loved the napkins... they're those nice white all cotton absorbent kind with the wide blue stripes. Should you decide to visit Buttermilk Channel to try the fried chicken insist on having it prepared with an internal temperature of at least 165 degrees F. No one really likes rare chicken, do they?

I could not wait to try this place when visiting friends in Brooklyn. Let me tell you, I love buttermilk! I thought it would be a feature of most dishes - but suspect it may only appear in the fried chicken batter. I asked for an Enos cocktail - buttermilk with a popcorn garnish, and was told they could not accomodate me! Shocking!

To their credit, the food is so good it's hard to enjoy your time there due to crowds. That's nice for them, not so great for the customer. Breakfast is wonderful and the French Toast is amazing. They were a tad snooty, but it's high-end New York eating... as to be expected.

Plus side - Duck meatloaf - tasty. Ribs - too boiled with flavor just on the top layer; popovers with honey, boring; hush puppies, bland, and the aioli too oily; fried chicken - good crunch but bland; pasta - bland - get the idea. Yes, this is comfort food, but it should have some flavor.
